Advertisement Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Hi FrozenInTime, Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Andreas.Pichler Posted November 18, 2012 Share #4362 Posted November 18, 2012 (edited) Cool, "FrozenInTime" - it is indeed the C111-II Wankel. When the C111 has been presented in 1969, there were some plans to make is a series car, not only a prototype. Some people sent cheques to Mercedes Benz in advance. But then the Wankel engine, the fiberglas bodyshell and some other aspects let Mercedes withdraw these plans. Instead the car has ben used a rolling laboratory, the C111-II finally was equipped with a 3 litre 5 cylinder Diesel engine, and this won nearly every record for Diesel car possible. So, its your turn, "FrozenInTime". Cheers, Andreas Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Cheers, Andreas Thanks Andreas, Performance diesel does seem to have been the right path - I think the Mazda RX8 rotary is now end of line. Andreas.Pichler Posted November 21, 2012 Share #4367 Posted November 21, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) If no one wants to jump in...which cars engine tried my wife Dagmar (classic car enthusiast like me, thanks god!) to extract? Make and (major) model will be sufficient. An easy one for all the petrolheads out there with black finger nails (I have not said its not an MG!). Cheers, Andreas Welcome, dear visitor! Andreas.Pichler Posted November 22, 2012 Share #4369 Posted November 22, 2012 Sorry, Wilson, not a Volvo PV. But similar engine! Cheers, Andreas
wlaidlaw Posted November 22, 2012 Share #4370 Posted November 22, 2012 Can't be a British, French or Italian car - there is not enough rust on the inner wing panel Wilson
Andreas.Pichler Posted November 22, 2012 Share #4371 Posted November 22, 2012 British. Cheers, Andreas
wlaidlaw Posted November 22, 2012 Share #4372 Posted November 22, 2012 British. Cheers, Andreas I think you may need to show us a bit more. I would be guessing blind if I suggested anything. It was the lack of rust that led me to suggest a PV544. I see these tough old birds on rallies quite a bit. I asked one lady where he had got hers. She said her husband had found it in a barn in Minnesota, where it had been for the last 30+ years. They replaced the oil, battery, spark plugs and tyres and it started almost straight away. It still had its original paintwork and much of the interior. The odometer showed over 300,000 miles. Wilson

wlaidlaw Posted November 22, 2012 Share #4374 Posted November 22, 2012 Sunbeam Alpine but it is still a guess. Wilson
Andreas.Pichler Posted November 22, 2012 Share #4375 Posted November 22, 2012 Wilson, now you are on the right track. Its a roadster (a real roadster) from England, but not a Sunbeam. Cheers, Andreas
Ernstk Posted November 22, 2012 Share #4376 Posted November 22, 2012 I'm thinking it might be an MGB? Ernst
Andreas.Pichler Posted November 22, 2012 Share #4377 Posted November 22, 2012 Ernst, are you sure that an MGB has this little chromed not working air intake grille on top of the wing which you can see on the second photo? But you're getting as close as it will possible without become the winner :-) Cheers, Andreas PS: An MGB has wind up windows, so for the purist it is not a real roadster...as our riddle car is. wlaidlaw Posted November 22, 2012 Share #4378 Posted November 22, 2012 I had thought you had said it was not an MG but now I think with the chrome grille in the wing, it must be an MGA. Wilson
Andreas.Pichler Posted November 22, 2012 Share #4379 Posted November 22, 2012 Wilson, read carefully: "I have not said its not an MG!" ;-) MGA is correct, its our beloved, unrestored, fast family member which is living in the garage. Your turn, Wilson! Cheers, Andreas Welcome, dear visitor! wlaidlaw Posted November 22, 2012 Share #4380 Posted November 22, 2012 I think MGA's are lovely cars. I could never understand how they followed that up with the MGB, basically a sports version of a London taxi (it used the same suspension and Austin Heavy 12 Engine). Anyway, enough of the easy stuff. This one is I hope, going to have you scratching your heads. Mixed nationality is the only clue. Wilson Welcome, dear visitor!
