IR Cut filters for Summicron 40 & Rokkor 40

The original filters for Summicron C 40 (series 5,5) were retained by the rubber lens hood (same on Elmar C 90) : I think a UVIR 5,5 isn't made by anyone... times ago some posts were made with various solutions : if I remember well, to use/adapt a 39 filter is rather easy, but probably prevents the use of the standard hood.

On the contrary, 40,5 filters for the Rokkor can indeed be found - see above for B+W

Want to put a red nose on your dear old 'cron 40/2? ;)

No problem, you just need:

- a 39mm UV-IR Leica filter (#13410)

- a Leica hood #12518 dedicated to the 'cron 40/2

- a 37mm rubber ring

- a pin and a die grinder

Works fine with M8 and R-D1. Never used it with the M9 but a thinner rubber ring would be advisable to avoid vignetting presumably.

1. Grind the filter housing of the hood in order to enlarge its inner diameter to 37mm:

2. Remove the blocking ring of the filter with a pin or same:

3. Insert the glass into the filter housing:

4. Insert the rubber ring over the glass:

5. Screw-in the hood and enjoy:

You can screw on regular E39 filter on Summicron 40. It only goes about single turn or so, but that's tight enough to hold the filter in place. You just want to check if it's not loose from time to time,, At least that's how I use my lens and filter and have been working okay without losing the filter.
