adan Posted April 22, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wildlife isn't my normal genre, but since I live 2 blocks from an urban lake, it was a convenient subject to try out my 250 Leitz Telyt f/4 on a Canon 5D. The thread title comes, of course, from my inspiration and guide to R products - Doug Herr. Some of these are cropped to 360 - 600 efective focal length, as indicated in the notes. But this first one is full frame.

adan Posted April 22, 2010 Author Share #2 Posted April 22, 2010 Cropped a little for composition - to about a "300mm" view.
adan Posted April 22, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted April 22, 2010 Full-frame again...
adan Posted April 22, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted April 22, 2010 A crop from the shot above. This 250 from the 1980's is not an APO lens, so requires a fair amount of correction for chromatic aberrations, but with a little practice I am building a preset to tame most of the red/cyan and occasional purple fringing. adan Posted April 22, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted April 22, 2010 This is a crop to at least 500mm effective focal length - about 3.2 megapixels of the Canon's 12. Not really printable at any size, but does show how the lens holds up, and I liked the fish.
adan Posted April 22, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted April 22, 2010 This is cropped to about 400mm equivalent (1.6x crop - about what a 7D or 50D would capture). ISOs on these shots were 100-200.

drdannn Posted April 23, 2010 Share #9 Posted April 23, 2010 I especially like photo # 1 and # 3. #1 for it's focusing and creating the mystery of branches with the shallow DOF in both directions. #2 for it's uniqueness ; the little shallow area where the bird is standing , and also the stance of the bird. Really nice. Dan
drdannn Posted April 23, 2010 Share #10 Posted April 23, 2010 Forgot to mention that the clarity and color rendition of all the photos is SPOT ON. Dan

elansprint72 Posted April 24, 2010 Share #12 Posted April 24, 2010 Good set of non-Pro bird shots; do not hold your breath waiting for a response from Herr Herr, he's too busy to comment on other folks photos.
