Advertisement Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Hi pop, Take a look here new Summilux 35mm [ Merged ]. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
microview Posted May 15, 2010 Share #122 Posted May 15, 2010 Where did you find the other prices if i may ask? "The new 35mm Summilux lens should be announced next week. The exact announcement date I have for Europe is May 17th, but this could differ depending on your time zone. The retail price is going to be €3,750 or $5,000 (US). I already mentioned the expected stores availability: July, 2010." (Leica Rumours site; I merely added current euro–sterling conversion rate.) adan Posted May 15, 2010 Share #123 Posted May 15, 2010 "(Leica Rumours site; I merely added current euro–sterling conversion rate.)" Ahh - but with or without value added tax? No VAT in the US, so you can't convert directly unless you make sure the Euro price is WITHOUT the tax.
lct Posted May 15, 2010 Share #124 Posted May 15, 2010 ...The retail price is going to be €3,750 or $5,000 (US)... Leica rumors are based on the Ukrainian brochure which does not refer to non-EU prices AFAIK. It says 'RSP in Germany incl. VAT: EUR 3750'. Edit: Means EUR 400 more than the current lens so USD 5,000 sounds credible compared to the current USD 4,500.
lct Posted May 15, 2010 Share #125 Posted May 15, 2010 BTW in the Maison du Leica's tarif, the word 'arrêt' (stoppage) is printed near the current 35/1.4 asph. See: http://www.lemoyenformat.com/LEICAweb/LEICAtarif.pdf
Xmas Posted May 15, 2010 Share #126 Posted May 15, 2010 Leica rumors are based on the Ukrainian brochure which does not refer to non-EU prices AFAIK. It says 'RSP in Germany incl. VAT: EUR 3750'.Edit: Means EUR 400 more than the current lens so USD 5,000 sounds credible compared to the current USD 4,500. But that is less then 10% for a new Leica lens, does not seem credible to me, 20% maybe, 10% never, dont mean the story is a fairy tale merely the new lens wont be cheap. Or do you still believe in Santa? Noel
lct Posted May 15, 2010 Share #127 Posted May 15, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...Or do you still believe in Santa?... Don't know how to translate 'Santa' in Ukrainian but yes the brochure of the Leica rep in Kiev sounds credible to me so i still bet on EUR 3,750 in EU and around USD 5,000 in the US. andybarton Posted May 15, 2010 Share #128 Posted May 15, 2010 Ahh - but with or without value added tax? No VAT in the US, so you can't convert directly unless you make sure the Euro price is WITHOUT the tax. But not everyone here lives in the US. This isn't a US forum. If the lens is sold in Germany with German VAT rates, that's what everyone else in the EU has to pay. People on the US just need to discount the German VAT rate - something which most European customers don't have the luxury of doing.
twittle Posted May 15, 2010 Share #129 Posted May 15, 2010 But not everyone here lives in the US. This isn't a US forum. No, but if a comparison is given, wouldn't you agree it should be accurate? If a quote in Euros is directly converted to USD without removing VAT, it's definitely not accurate. Here's another very probable inaccuracy: if the Euro price for the new lens is 3750, and German VAT is 19% (3150 sans VAT), the US price should be 3950. That obviously won't happen, though. Jeff S Posted May 16, 2010 Share #130 Posted May 16, 2010 if the Euro price for the new lens is 3750, and German VAT is 19% (3150 sans VAT), the US price should be 3950. ho_co Posted May 16, 2010 Share #132 Posted May 16, 2010 1) Leica has previously set prices according to market conditions in each distribution area, so converting from German prices may be fun but isn't necessarily helpful. 2) The dealer information cited in post 23 above, http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/forum-zur-leica-m9/119828-summilux-35mm-neu-3.html#post1329478 shows prices both with and without VAT, to wit €4823 without and €5190 with VAT. 3) Lens release date is given there as 17. May 2010.

horosu Posted May 16, 2010 Share #134 Posted May 16, 2010 Howard, the dealer info you cited in 2) is in Swiss Francs. The dealer and the LUG-er on the waiting list are from Switzerland and he confirmed in a subsequent message (in the thread you linked) that this is the case. ho_co Posted May 16, 2010 Share #138 Posted May 16, 2010 Great! Thanks for the correction, Horea! After reading all the rumors and denials and speculations, I can't even read the facts right. At any rate, that's back to the originally published data from the Ukrainian site: Welcome, dear visitor! pop Posted May 16, 2010 Share #140 Posted May 16, 2010 With reference of the document referred to in my post #23 above: Given the current exchange rate from CHF to EUR of about 0.72, the Swiss price would be reckoned as EUR 3442, excluding VAT. Delivery of the product will start from the end of Juli 2010.
