Which lens is this?

Well, I have a 1970 90mm Summicron that looks similar in shape, especially the hood, but has different markings (no yellow). On mine the lens head can be unscrewed. To me, your lens looks like a more recent make.

This is the first generation 2/90mm Summicron-R for the Leicaflex, Leicaflex SL and R series cameras. Probably a 2-cam lens - would have to see the back of the mount to see if it had the third cam installed so that it could be used on R series bodies as well.

Best,

Jan

Thank you, K-H and Jan,

You've confirmed what I'd suspected from looking at my Hove 7th Edition but their photo wasn't good enough to make a positive id.

Incidentally, this lens is being offered for sale as a 90 APO-Summicron-M and I know it's not that because I already have one and it's very different of course! What threw me was the aperture ring at the rear of the lens when pretty much all of the other 90 Summicrons both M and R have the ring towards the front.

Cheers,

Pete.

Yes, looks like it... I find a bit strange the yellow "90" at base... I thought it appeared only on the 2nd version... but can be wrong.

Pete,

to the best of my knowledge, most if not all R lenses ever made including the 90 Summicrons have the aperture ring at the rear of the lens (your 90 apo should be the same way). It is different with M lenses though, the aperture ring is usually located towards the front there.

Andy

This is a 90mm Summicron-R. The '90' to the left of the DOF scale suggests it was made after 1976 with E55 filter & 3 cams.

Yes Summicron-R 90/2 # 11219, 1976-1986. Mine is from 1978. My favorite 90 so far.
