georgio Posted April 19, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 19, 2010 Not bad looking Jaap, but I really love the engraving! Geo
Alnitak Posted April 19, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 19, 2010 Very nice, and I agree with Geo on the top plate engraving.
Ecar Posted April 19, 2010 Share #4 Posted April 19, 2010 +1 for the engraving. As far as the leather is concerned, well...er... de gustibus non est disputandum...
Baptiste Posted April 19, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 19, 2010 +1 engraving as well . Though, you must be truly confident to keep it until it dies to have it engraved... As for the leather, not bad indeed. It seems very old fashion, good as well with the lense. But I think that it is even better looking with a black paint lense, more consistent probably. blatent liar Posted April 22, 2010 Share #7 Posted April 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sexy Camera... and kudos for waiving your own flag. Me thinks the leather is good. Engraving, Great. I use my camera as well, and it's rather brassy at this point, so resale never mattered much to me either. The top plate is classy. Did you simply order a new Top, with the engraving?, or send it back to chisel the existing top? If the latter, then how long to get the script and returned? Black Body and Silver Glass is plain and simply gorgeous. Cheers Max
Chroma project Posted April 22, 2010 Share #8 Posted April 22, 2010 What an ugly looking Leica, awful.
wilfredo Posted April 22, 2010 Share #9 Posted April 22, 2010 Looks like you were shooting for a really eclectic look and you achieved your goal.
jaapv Posted April 22, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted April 22, 2010 Well said, Wilfredo. And, as another poster said, Chroma, de gustibus ..... Anyway, for the engraving I sent it to Solms. Took one week. And the first snakeskin Leica dates back to 1928, so it is traditional enough.
ho_co Posted April 22, 2010 Share #11 Posted April 22, 2010 Jaap, you've convinced me there's meaning behind the a la carte idea. This baby is gorgeous! Congratulations on the concept and the execution!
greenhillm Posted April 22, 2010 Share #12 Posted April 22, 2010 I don't like it. I think it's ugly. However, each to his own. Michael

Mauribix Posted April 22, 2010 Share #18 Posted April 22, 2010 Jaap, I have a matching tie, if you are interested... Is it balck, silver or snake pattern?
Mauribix Posted April 22, 2010 Share #19 Posted April 22, 2010 Anyway, thank you for posting it Jaap. Here is more and more evident a cosmetic defect of almost all the Leica-M lenses: Black cameras with red dots have to "struggle" with the orange inlays of the black lenses(apart from the black paint ones). To match the inlay writings color, you have to unmatch the color of the camera with the lens. 1-Black cameras and red dots with Black lenses with orange writings. NO Good OR 2-Black cameras and red dot with Black paint lenses (satin vs matte finish is a fist in the eye) No Good again OR 3-Black cameras and red dot with silver lenses and red writings. NO Good OR 4-Chrome/Silver cameras and red dots with Black lenses and orange writings. NO Good OR 5-Chrome/Silver cameras and red dots with silver lenses and red writings. GOOD! (probably Leica must have noticed the matching harmonious colors, that's why, seldom, they decided to replace the red dot on the lens with the red writings, with an.... ORANGE dot!) Now you can solve most of the problem by using a Black Dot, so you'd probably get and harmonious number 1 and 5 combo: All black with some orange or all silvers with some red. all of this lead me to understand why they stop making a silver/chrome body and replaced it insted with the GREY (M9) one: There was the risk to make a harmonious die camera, so let's avoid the risk! After all, we're only tryin' to match colors as to take better pictures, and you know, chrome cameras are supposed to take better picture as well. P.S. I left apart those gorgeous safari and all-white camera...
250swb Posted April 22, 2010 Share #20 Posted April 22, 2010 You make a good point Maurizio, just so long as nobody spoils the effect by displaying anything thats green or blue on the LCD, which realistically means a boutique gray M9 isn't much good for landscapes. For that you'd need green leather with a blue dot, or visa versa. The concept of Feng Shui for cameras hasn't been fully investigated yet, and I hope this is the beginings of something exciting for photography.
