wparsonsgisnet Posted April 16, 2010 Author Share #21 Posted April 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I used to have the bride's website as my home page at work -- 'cause I liked looking at one of my pix when the browser opened up. Welcome to Dance Visions Naturally, I was in a meeting at work with my laptop projected on the board in front of a dozen or so people, when I had to refresh the browser and the pic appeared on the screen. One woman said, "Uh, oh," so I had to go to the site and explain that it was my wife's -- so as to dispell the notion that I might be viewing porn on my office computer -- and walk them around it for a moment. I have since defaulted to a very boring home page in the browser.

I would have looked her in the eye and said "what? you don't like dancers?" You know the Victorians used to dress piano legs because a "naked leg" was inappropriate... Truthfully, I think we're going backwards here...

Jamie Roberts Posted April 16, 2010 Share #25 Posted April 16, 2010 lol I have absolutely done my time in the corporate world. But I do think people like the ones the other Bill was mentioning need to chill out a little--there's truly abusive and exploitative stuff and there's the mindless application of a totally patriarchal and prurient standard of belief (and ignorance) to the mildest of themes... which is nonsense IMO. The "uh-oh" says worlds about the person saying that and nothing about Bill, IMO. Most times a ballet dancer is a ballet dancer, not porn. How stupidly judgmental can one get? Of course, advertising--and the music industry--pushes boundaries all the time, I get that, but geez.. grow up already. You're not in the corporate world, are you Jamie? wparsonsgisnet Posted April 16, 2010 Author Share #26 Posted April 16, 2010 I think the "Uh, oh" was an instinctive reaction to an underlying suspicion that porn will be found on anyone's computer. All those legs on the screen and ... whoops .... I know a guy in this place whose computer crashed and the desktop guys said it was due to some porn he dowloaded that had a trojan horse in it. You gotta be come kind of dummy to put alien stuff on someone else's computer....
Guido Posted May 2, 2010 Share #27 Posted May 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) You do realize that if each time you use an ad-blocker, you're effectively stealing the time and effort of those that run this forum in a way that allows you to use it for free? Just an afterthought: I've recently installed TapaTalk on my iPhone, which is a forum reader endorsed by the very administrators of this site. TapaTalk not only removes ads, but effectively suppresses all graphic elements on the site. Instead, it provides a direct and fast-loading interface to postings and threads without all the layout clutter. This is far better than any ad-blocker! And best, it's recommended by the admins (who had to take active measures to make this forum work with TapaTalk, since server-side modifications are required). Needless to say, I've switched to my iPhone to read and post on this and most other supporting forums now...
Rick Posted May 2, 2010 Share #28 Posted May 2, 2010 Bill, back to your original post, yeah, now that you mention it that add hits me that way every time the page displays, and it is her lips that bug me, on a sort of you are being manipulated on a very obvious, not so subliminal way. Also, about a month ago I was sitting one Saturday morning in our house having a coffee and my wife walked by, paused, looked at my screen and commented, "What's that?" I found myself explaining way to hard that I was looking at the Leica Forum, you know camera's and no I don't actually know why that add is there. So, I know it hit her in some way too. LUF Admin Posted May 2, 2010 Share #31 Posted May 2, 2010 Andreas, is it possible to have a version of the LUF that one pays a subscription for and that has no ads? Good idea, would give an additional value to the Sponsoring Membership... Made it on my "To DoW list! Best regards from Bonn Andreas

cbretteville Posted May 2, 2010 Share #33 Posted May 2, 2010 Good idea, would give an additional value to the Sponsoring Membership... Andreas, That is an excellent idea. My biggest problem with the ads have always been the rate at my batteries drain when flash ads are running. I'll gladly pay a higher subscription rate to be rid of the ads. spydrxx Posted May 4, 2010 Share #39 Posted May 4, 2010 The ad surely captured attention! My daughter saw it and wondered why ads of blatent whores were showing up on legit. photography sites...I had to calm her down.... but anyway it was an obnoxious ad, even worse than the one which preceeded it with the bubble head girl. tdtaylor Posted May 4, 2010 Share #40 Posted May 4, 2010 When I see an add like that, no way in h@ll will I visit it. A little class, please....but then, it does seem to work for many, look at mainstream tv.....just doesn't work for me, and I am on the "need to advertise" side of things.
