Advertisement Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Hi tom in mpls, Take a look here Where to buy MS-MAG (Megaperls) viewfinder magnifier in US. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
thompsonkirk Posted February 24, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 24, 2010 No, they'd have trouble from Leica if they sold them here. But they're happy to send you one from Japan. Order it for your rifle or telescope. Kirk
tom in mpls Posted February 24, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted February 24, 2010 Ah, I did ask if they would send one for my, um, spotting scope and they told me yes. It still seems odd that one can't buy directly in the states, which prompted my question here. Thanks for setting me straight on that.
lct Posted February 24, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 24, 2010 ...It still seems odd that one can't buy directly in the states, which prompted my question here... Due to breach of Leica patents apparently. Japan Exposures
luigi bertolotti Posted February 24, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 24, 2010 they are the small details and trickies on which lawyers like Lct earn their lives... ... a Company can file in a certain Country (and have registered) a patent for "Magnifier that FITS BY SCREW INTO THE VIEWFINDER of a rangefinder camera...." so another Company can't sell a similar device declaring it FITS THE RANGEFINDER... but can sell an optical device that happens to have a certain lens and a certain screw thread... It's something like the 6 bit coding... ... Cosina Voigtalnder can't sell a SM to BM adapter with a 6 bit code... Mr. John M. of N.Y. is free to make a machining and painting of a SM to BM adapter for any private people who likes to have it done.

I guess the difference is one is a big company doing mass business while the other is doing it on a one to one basis. If Mr. M had started up a company to mass produce his adapters with ads all over the place he might get more attention from Leica than he does now.
