bad robot Posted February 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Are only men buying the X1? I read some where; a rather poor review, that the X1 is a "girls camera". Real men care several Kgs of equipment in a bag big enough to hold a 4 person tent, apperently. And now Panasonic have released a GF 1 in pink. Is the X1 non gender specific? Anyway I'm clearly going insane, waiting for my mystical X1 to turn up

luigi bertolotti Posted February 21, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 21, 2010 This could be the start of a very funny thread...... and heated too if only more women would be in this forum: Nicole, "Loloumum", Caryl... we are wating for YOU!... P.S. : I gave a Lumix to a daughter of mine for birthday ("Leica" lens, of course)... I asked her if she would like better it in pink or azur... the answer was "BLACK"
Walt Calahan Posted February 21, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 21, 2010 WTF I have never met a camera that knows the gender of its operator. Talk about anthropomorphizing an inanimate object.
kalina Posted February 21, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 21, 2010 Any camera that looks small and sleek and can fit into a purse might be seen as a woman's camera. My boy side says I'll choose black over pink.

And real men that need heavy gear aren't real brilliant are they?
SJP Posted February 21, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 21, 2010 There must be a market for pink or white X1. There is at least one pink M8 used by a man. This is an alternative way to implement smile detection without requiring a software fix.
grober Posted February 21, 2010 Share #7 Posted February 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ha! I would gladly be accused with using a "women's camera" if I had ten percent of the talent some women possessed who were masters with their chosen cameras. Anyone ever heard of Dorothea Lange? Take your meds and just try to forget you ever ordered the bloody thing. Someone please remind me to check with my Leica dealer mid-summer, eh? -g
pappde Posted February 21, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 21, 2010 Or for that matter, try this woman, with her "girlie" camera. Vivian Maier - Her Discovered Work Love those pictures! bad robot Posted February 21, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted February 21, 2010 I've just finished reading Susan Sontag "On Photography". I rememeber a time a few months ago when I was out with my brother and brother-in-law. They had there large DSLRs, many lens and very large "man bags", after a while they complained about their respective loads, to their repective partners and the world in general. Prevously they had been laughing at my D Lux4 and tiny ever ready case...
jmteno76 Posted February 21, 2010 Share #10 Posted February 21, 2010 Here is my hypothesis. It is not gender, but the divide is between those who see the camera as merely an instrument to capture an image that is appealing to that user vs. those who are into the technology - as in having the best technology. Then on the other hand, I may be wrong. jmt
jsrockit Posted February 21, 2010 Share #11 Posted February 21, 2010 Is there such a thing as a women's camera? That just sounds like some macho BS to me.
cheewai_m6 Posted February 22, 2010 Share #12 Posted February 22, 2010 if appealing to the female market, why does it automatically have to be pink? or baby blue? my wife HATES how no running shoes for women are EVER different colours other than pink or baby blue. that sentence makes no sense. NZDavid Posted February 22, 2010 Share #13 Posted February 22, 2010 I like Leica's curves. Really much more ergonomic for any gender hands than big angular brutish beasts.

AutoTrader Classics - 1957 Morgan Plus 4 Convertible Pink Other Other Other | Import Classics | Long Island City, NY OUCH !!! Would it be a single image, I'd suspect a photoshp joke... this makes me remember a (female) italian singer that in the '60s had a pinky Jaguar E spider... ... and of course had problems when tried to resell it... stephen.w Posted February 24, 2010 Share #18 Posted February 24, 2010 I suspect that most of the people on this forum are sick of all the boneheads out there walking around with big cameras taking bad, emotionless photos. The X1 is ( in concept if not in execution) an antidote to the machismo associated with bigger cameras and an attempt to return the art of photography back to its essentials.
