SiOnara Posted February 19, 2010 Share #1 Posted February 19, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone. Was just testing the continuous shooting mode on my new M8 and it stopped working. I cannot PLAY or go into the MENU. I have a feeling I have seen something about this before but cannot remember if I can fix the problem myself. When I turn the camera on the red light flashes and the camera beeps. I cannot take a picture. Jei.
Advertisement Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Hi SiOnara, Take a look here M8 gone dead. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dpattinson Posted February 19, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 19, 2010 take out the battery and replace it, that should reset the camera. freezing while shooting continuously has been an ongoing problem with some M8's. In particular, if you have the shutter set to 'discreet' and shoot on C mode... you can reliably lock up a M8 on current firmware. hth, david. SiOnara Posted February 19, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted February 19, 2010 Hummm still no luck. I left the battery out about 2 minutes. Popped it back in and still no joy.
dpattinson Posted February 19, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 19, 2010 Hummm still no luck. I left the battery out about 2 minutes. Popped it back in and still no joy. is the camera powering up? can you see the battery indicator on top? often the battery depletes from 1-2 bars to nothing very rapidly when shooting on C, especially in cold weather. It may be that the battery is now flat.

Same problem, same solution... charged the battery while I was out, put it in when I came back, and all was well. Then I cleaned the camera to make sure it knew it was loved. menos I M6 Posted February 22, 2010 Share #8 Posted February 22, 2010 I had the issue a few days earlier, when accidentally moving the mode to C on my M8.2. The camera fired a few frames (I shoot in "S" mode and keep the shutter button depressed for lower speeds and the nice discreet mode) and then re cocked the shutter endlessly. Even moving the switch to "off" did not stop it. Only removing the battery stopped the camera from this mayhem run. Too bad, "C" is not only unusable, but also easy to set by accident with the inappropriate switch.
farnz Posted February 22, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 22, 2010 ... Too bad, "C" is not only unusable, but also easy to set by accident with the inappropriate switch. It works perfectly if you take your M8 off Discreet mode. Pete.

I had and have the same problem with my newly acquired pre owned M8 today...It was the first day of taking it out to really use..Very disturbing to say the least and the battery was fully charged. Now it seems to be able to take a picture but can't review them. Rather I see the file name of the image. Very unhappy about this to say the least. Mark, I now now about the "C" mode and discreet advance mode issue first hand and try to avoid bumping the camera into "C". The discreet advance is very welcome and sticks for me. I knew about the issues, the M8/ M8.2 does have before I bought the camera. I opted knowingly to this "flawed" camera and therefore do not complain, as it works beautifully within the limitations, I was aware of. Regarding your image review issue, I would first try to reset the camera in any way possible (reset settings in the menu and start the camera with a freshly formatted SD card + good battery, which has been removed before). I have not heard about this issue before - but then, I am a novice on a digital Leica either. You could contact Leica by e-mail and ask them for advice. There are several threads online about some SD card difficulties and the digital M. This might bring up some clues as well. Good luck with your camera and don't feel let down by it. It is indeed a very capable tool regarding it's output.
