Sandokan Posted February 19, 2010 Share #3 Posted February 19, 2010 Fake but for only €256.00 it is not too expensive.
Guido Posted February 19, 2010 Share #4 Posted February 19, 2010 Also see this thread from 2007 about a Leica with a different S/N, but exactly the same engravings.
pop Posted February 19, 2010 Share #5 Posted February 19, 2010 Looks like a genuine article to me. Genuine Russian copy, that is. Also, the seller looks a bit fishy.
luigi bertolotti Posted February 19, 2010 Share #6 Posted February 19, 2010 For that price, it is intriguing as a nice toy... does some expert of WWII know if really existed a certain general named "Otto Hoffmann von Waldau" ? If so, the search for an original name is worth the price by itself... I appreciate that the seller writes that the camera is ENGRAVED Leica etc... and never declares too openly it IS a Leica... Guido Posted February 19, 2010 Share #9 Posted February 19, 2010 Besides, I wonder why he would have the same misspelling ("Hoffman" instead of "Hoffmann", if Wikipedia is correct) engraved on each one of his own Leicas.

He mistyped it on the sheet he gave his engraving shop. Also, they weren't aware of the mistake, being unable to read Roman script.
earleygallery Posted February 19, 2010 Share #12 Posted February 19, 2010 That's about as genuine as an MP's expense claim! For those not familiar with LTM Leicas a dead giveaway is the shutter button treaded for a cable release. All LTM Leicas have a solid button (the cable release threads around the button in the same way as on a Nikon F).
Pecole Posted February 21, 2010 Share #13 Posted February 21, 2010 So, real or fake, this one?It seems a bit pricey for a fake... Salut, tonton!
