After almost one year searching for Leica R-M adapter, I got it in Hong Kong through Leica authorized dealer and I am very pleased to use it with my M240.

My R lenses: Elmarit 19, Elmarit 24, Vario Elmarit 35-70, Vario Elmar 80-200 and Apo Elmarit 100.

All work fine, only Elmarit 24 and 35-70 are not listed on the M240 Menu.

I wonder if somebody could advise me which setting I should use for both?

A tripod supporter came with the adapter and work very good to support the heavy R lenses.

The EVF work fine and easy to focus.

I have been very pleased with the Nikon D700/Leitax solution.

I second that emotion! I bought a Nikon D700 and had all my R lenses Leitexed by DAG. For me it's been the best solution, particularly with the Summilux 80 & Summilux 35. I also had DAG leitex my R24, but it doesn't focus to infinity. That's not an issue for me, as I almost NEVER focus to infinity.

The resolution and color from the NIKON D800 files are the best I have ever seen in a 35mm digital camera.

Has anyone tried a Sony A7R with adapter? With rebates this is now sub-US$2K. For me, I'm not interested in anything wider than my 28-90 zoom.

I got the A7R a few weeks ago. I have tested my R lenses, 19mm V2, 28mm V1, 50 'Cron, 90' Cron, 180 Apo-Elmarit and 35-70 VE. All of these are working well. I am stacking adapters, Novoflex M-E mount and the Leica M-R mount. Previously, some of these R lenses were leitaxed with alpha mounts and I used these with the A850. I de-leitaxed and reverted to the original R mounts. I have used these lenses with the M240. The A7R EVF is much better. Focusing is easier. The shutter is loud and it reminds me of the old mechanical SLRs such as the Nikon F, F2 or the Canon F1! My preference is to use these R lenses with the A7R.

If you can live with an AA filter and don't need 36MP, the a7 might be a better R solution until such time as Sony addresses the shutter vibration issue. Or the next iteration.

I have shot both and the vibrations on the a7R are noticeably greater and unacceptable.

This is not the silent street camera that goes unnoticed. Unless you're doing a documentary on the elderly.

I find your observations surprising. It's such a compact and well designed body. Why is it so loud? (I haven't used one)

The a7 has an Electronic First Curtain and consequently, no vibrations. The a7R does not have an EFC. At this link, Lloyd Chambers goes into detail about this issue:

Most A7R users recommend a shutter speed of 1/2FL. But in my own testings, I have used 1/FL or even less and have gotten good results. For example, I have used 1/20 with my 35mm 'Cron pre-ash and the results are excellent. The 36mpx sensor is very demanding and unforgiving. In my case, I tend to shoot landscape and so far testings with my Gitzo traveller tripod have not shown any vibration issues, even with the 180 Apo-Elmarit.

For tele lenses, e.g. APO 280/4 I have found shutter shake can be really pronounced in portrait but not so much in landscape orientation. Even on a tripod, gripping the A7R firmly can help as long as the shutter speed isn't too slow.

Ng NS , very nice pictures in the last link "Winter, inner Mongolia" : all with A7R ?

Thanks

Henry

Hi Henry,

Thanks. Glad you like the photos. The Inner Mongolian photos were captured with the M240. I bought the A7R a few weeks in the Gold Coast, Australia. I could not resist a good deal! I have been testing it with both my M and R lenses. This will accompany my M240 for my next trip.
