I think I can clear up things...

I just talked to Leica and asked them about this issue.

Good news:

The Leica M9 production is running without any breaks.

The reason for this rumor:

As far as I understood Leica is moving to another logistic partner with a different storehouse. Thus for one week no deliveries are made but after that break the backlog is delivered ASAP.

Leica will send me (or will post here) an official statement.

If such rumors occur please feel free to send me a message, I know whom to contact in Solms ;)

Best regards from Bonn

Andreas

The whole THREAD is based on some speculation... If Leica (or any other company for that matter) sent out Press Releases regarding every bit of internet chatter speculation, there'd be no trees left in Sweden.

I don't know why you haven't got your lens hood yet. Have you tried phoning Stefan Daniels and asking him? Ot have you phoned Customer Service? Or have you tried alternative sources?

Andy I am not suggesting that Leica send out a press release on EVERY bit of internet chatter. I am saying that the one recurrent theme since weeks in all I read here and elsewhere about Leica is that the M9 has a huge delivery problem and that is also true of lenses and filters. Dealers have no idea when they will get their next deliveries or have visibility of the schedule going forward for M9 or anything else.

If you read my posting I say that facilities do shut down over Christmas, people do move warehouses etc....and all that is normally planned for and dealers should know what is going to be shipped when. I do not see the need for a press release ...I do see the need for Leica to clarify shipment plans and make them happen.

I ordered my lenshood and filter via a dealer ....is it really reasonable as you suggest that I should now phone Stefan Daniels, or customer service to check on the expected delivery date? Surely dealers are in contact with the factory and have updates on what they have ordered.

I keep phoning my dealer and they confirm that it has been ordered but do NOT have any trust in delivery dates for anything. I have also checked with a second main UK Leica dealer back in October and they are ordering the lenshood for their stock and it has not as yet arrived either....although the product is supposed to be exstock in Solms.

Andy I am not sure where you are coming from. Is this a level of service that you feel is acceptable from a high end brand with a £5000 price tag for the body, £3500 for the Tri Elmar (MATE) and £100+ for a lenshood? Is this what we can and should expect from the Leica dealer network? I have my view and I would hope that people on this forum would be supportive.

Frank's only spitting his dummy because of the M9 he has on order.

...ah, wait a minute...

Regards,

Bill

Bill I have not ordered a M9 yet and I am hopeful that the M10 when it eventually comes will better fit what I am looking for. As I remember it you were very negative about M8 and would never buy that camera due to the crop factor. You were definately going to buy the M9 as soon as it became available ...have you a M9 or is it still waiting delivery. I do not remember seeing any feedback about the M9 from you.

I am upset that since last October I have not received my Tri Elmar (MATE) lenshood, and a Series UV/IR filter for the 400 and 560mm Telyts. I recently won a photo competition with an image that used the TriElmar lens and it has some flare on that image which I wish to avoid in future. Waiting nearly 4 months now for a lenshood that also fits the 24mm lens is for me annoying.

Andreas it is good news indeed and thanks for getting involved. I think you have given clarity.

I think given the various misinformation and sometimes NO information it would be great to have Stefan or whoever write a monthly update on what is going on at Solms. Is this something that you feel Leica would be interested in doing?

I am not asking about the delivery plan and spec. of an eventual M10 or other new camera....That would be confidential information and very sensitive to M9 sales.

I am thinking about an update on clearing the M9 backlog or lens delivery issues......I do not think it necessary to define how many M9's were shipped if Leica see that as confidential, although I do not see why they would feel that.

It would be interesting I believe to hear when M9 firmware, and M8 firmware will be available. Will M8 firmware be available as suggested by Stefan with some of the M9 features, when, which featutres, and at what price?

We were lead to believe last year that there would be a solution for R10 ...when is this likely to happen?

Stefan suggested that the MATE would be reintroduced ...any update on this?

I am sure that there are many topics that Leica could usefully communicate through this forum.

But what if the M10 isn't everything you're hoping for, Frank? And what if it's 10 years away?

Good question, and one I have given some thought.

At some point I shall go with the M9, if the M10 is not forthcoming. I shall do this only when the new firmware etc is available. My view is that today Leica are focussed on getting units out of the door while the prices are high as the M9 is in huge demand. The M9 has some niggles which will be fixed by firmware soon I believe and then the camera will be more attractive. I am sure the M9 will also drop in price at some point.

Meanwhile I love my M8 and it takes great photos so as an amateur I have the luxury of being able to wait for a FF digital. I also have used my M6 lately when I need FF with 21mm. ...it actually was rather enjoyable to go back temporarily to film.

Thanks for your interest.

Some more details from Solms:

- Move to the new logistic partner was last week (Jan 18th, – Jan. 23rd)

- This week (Jan. 25th – Jan. 30th) only limited deliveries are possible

So next week a new wave of LEICA M9 will hit the shelves ;-)

I am sure that there are many topics that Leica could usefully communicate through this forum.

Indeed. I'm trying to get information from Solms from time to time but it's not that easy.

Umm... Firmware development has little to do with "getting units out of the door"I would say; I doubt the average software engineer is much of a wizard with a screwdriver.

Andreas - While you're talking to the good people at Solms can you get an update on the new firmware release? I'd really like not have to wait 5 minutes for my cards to format...

Thanks

+1!

Best regards,

Michael

Frank I told you a few weeks ago that a US dealer appeared to have the lens hood in stock.

This was on the face of it true for the Tri Elmar Version 2, and for the Version 1 (which is the same as the 24mm lenshood). However when I came to place the order it turned out that both were available from Solms and that they did not carry as a stock item. I checked in UK and found that the dealers there could get me onw from Solms via Milton Keynes in theory just as quick.

I therefore ordered in Uk as that avoids for me the hassle of paying duties from US.

Thanks again for your input that the thing was even available and a catalogue part.

Frank, I would not be too sure. If I recall it correctly the price of the M8 had been increased during its production. In case customer demand last on high level history could be repeated.

Regards

Steve

PS: Nevertheless, my next digital M is most likely called M10.

I am sure the M9 will also drop in price at some point.

Steve actually when M8 was introduced it was as I remember it just £2500 and then was increased in steps to £3000 ....with the M8.2 going for £4000. However towards the end the M8 had a £500 special discount offer and dealers were giving a little extra also.

I believe at some point the M10 will come and the M9 will be available at discounts, but I suspect that I shall go for the M10.

You're confused about the lens rebate in any case. That was a bonus for those that had a 2006 camera that had to be recalled. The price in Euros was 4192 - I don't know the rate to the GBP then.
