jmr Posted December 10, 2006 Share #2 Posted December 10, 2006 Manfred, nice light, on what seems quite a bridge.
martinop Posted December 10, 2006 Share #3 Posted December 10, 2006 It is a nice view including the lighting and contrast.
stuny Posted December 10, 2006 Share #4 Posted December 10, 2006 Manfred - I'm sure we went here, but I don't recall. Very nice composition with the huon pines framing the left and the looming bridge arcing on the right. Lovely colors, light and depth.
wda Posted December 10, 2006 Share #5 Posted December 10, 2006 Manfred, This picture is most effective as a vertical shot. I think it would make a super cover picture; enough spare space for a graphic artist's text. David
Canfred Posted December 10, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted December 10, 2006 Ilike to thank all of you for your comments. Interesting comment from David I had not thought of thank you. Stuart this is the main bridge linking Hobart to the north, Hobart is on the far shore with the outstanding botanical gardens to the right stretching up the hill , I am sure you have been there. The new bridge replaced the one hit by a ship and destroyed I think some 20 years ago. My advise to any of you visiting Tasmania be sure to visit the botanical garden. ijporter Posted December 11, 2006 Share #7 Posted December 11, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Manfred, Well done! The bridge is the Tasman Bridge (but it is over the Derwent River) and it is the same bridge that was hit by the ship. It didn't collapse the whole bridge, but took out a section, which has been replaced. A number of cars fell into the river and there was a famous photo of one car with its front wheels hanging over the edge of the roadway where the section of road had disappeared. It is still possible to tell which section was collapsed because, although the roadway was replaced, the pylons were not. I think they must have been on the far side of the bridge, because the ones nearer to you all appear to be present. And yes, Tasmania is a beautiful state. farnz Posted December 11, 2006 Share #8 Posted December 11, 2006 A strong picture showing excellent depth. When I mask the bright green grass and wire mesh box at the bottom of the screen with my hand, my eye is immediately draw to the bridge and automatically follows it into the distance. I think that that the grass is causing a slight distraction and the image might be even stronger without it despite its attractive colour. What do you think? Pete. Canfred Posted December 12, 2006 Author Share #9 Posted December 12, 2006 Hi Ian and Pete, thanks for the info I was not sure how much of the bridge was rebuild . Actually did not know it was modified as in eliminating center collumns. Certainly this is the Tasman Bridge and I should have stated this. A very impressive construction and I fully agree Tasmania is quite unique and very beautiful. Pete I did play around with this option ,some merit in your advise but its a bit difficult for me. I lack the skill in PS.
ECliffordSmith Posted December 12, 2006 Share #10 Posted December 12, 2006 Hi Manfred, I think it has all been said above but I do find this to be a very appealing image. And please rest assured, I for one will not be forgetting Tasmania any time soon. Not when you create sportsmen like Ricky Ponting!!!
Canfred Posted December 13, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted December 13, 2006 Thanks for the comment Edward and I am very happy to hear some of you keep the place in mind. Not just Ricki Ponting the new Danish Princess is also from across Bass Strait. My favorite Tasmanian is Peter Dombrovski sadly he passed away ,a very very capable photographer. Peter passed away behind his beloved Linhof 4x5, alone in the hills it took some time to find him. I have most his books.
