Can the moderator explain why this thread was moved to the "People" section? http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/people/112892-m8-photography.html

This thread is a celebration of the M8 in many genres, of which "People" is only one. I respectfully request that it be returned to the M8 forum where it belongs.

Can't agree with that, Wilfredo. This is a fine collection of photographs and the proper place for it is the Photo Forum.

The 'Other' section suits it fine.

Non technical threads go in the Photo section, and always have done.

I have moved it from "People" to "Other" to accommodate any and every M8 shot in the thread.

It's a very interesting thread that needs to be seen by a wider audience. The question needs to be asked, "Why can't you have a celebration of the M8 in the Photo section of the forum"?

A wider audience will not find this, if it's located in the "other" photo section, i think after using this lovely forum for years, i have maybe visited the "other" section once or twice, and i can't remember the last time i visited that section...if you want a wider audience to see this, it should be on the M8 forum, since 99% of the users here have this, and only this url bookmarked...

All the more reason to get involved in that section, IMO. Maybe there could be an M9, M7, MP, M6, M5, M4, M3, M2 thread there as well. Alternatively, you could propose that the Forum be redesigned to only have Camera Sections, where everything is confined to the body.

Alexander, on your second point - is there any evidence whatsoever to support your statement? It seems like a fantastic, as in fantasy, comment to me.

No, but i think the majority of users start out in either the digital section or M8/9 section...(at least the users i know, and they are a few;-)

But i understand there is a "enormous" problem with some M8 tribute images in the M8 forum

section, i don't see why, but life goes on...(that this forum still lacks a Leica R section is another matter)

I agree, I rarely review the other threads.

Moderator- Your comment "It's a very interesting thread that needs to be seen by a wider audience" is not correct, just look at the statistics, the M8 forum has many more "posts and threads" please see: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/international-user-forum/

This is more than an interesting thread, this is a passionate celebration of the M8. Needless to say I'm very disappointed. Most people with interest in the M8 go to the M8 forum, they don't swim around in the photo forum, especially in the "Other " section. The enormous response this thread received in just a matter of hours is proof of that, especially from people that don't normally share their work. I don't understand the rigidity here?

Wilfredo- Agree 100%

Have to agree on the complaints.

Ever since the M9 section was broken away from the M8 section, I find myself spending less and less time at this forum and more time at the RF forum. Not sure what happened to the talk about merging the M8 and M9 groups back into a single digital Leica category, but there's just not enough going on here.

Wilfredo's thread was one of the few in recent weeks that I've actually been interested in, from an M8 perspective.

Sorry it was moved.

I use the "New Posts" link (just to the left of Search) as my first stop and don't miss any of the action.

I'm not suggesting (or not suggesting) any changes whatever. I'd just like to make a quick comment.

I've got limited time, but try to come "here" once a day if possible. By "here" I mean the M8 forum. Once a week or so I might go to the M9 forum, and once a month perhaps, to the forum where scanning information is to be found.

I've got an M8, and do want to more or less be kept up to date on what's happening with that camera. I used to go to the rangefinders forum page, but with the M9 stuff mixed in with the M8 over there, I pretty much gave up on it - maybe once a month I check it out.

I'm not sure if the software here permits it or not, but with forum software such as "Backtalk", you can have a discussion linked between several forums, so you can access the discussion from any of those forums. That would quickly resolve the question here, but I don't know if this software allows that to be done.

You will notice that I have made the original thread a sticky is this section of the forum. This links to the thread which is now in the Other section of the Photo forum. This allows people who never come to this sub-section to also enjoy the photographs, and still allows a link through from here.

I have also asked for Andreas's comment on this, as this is his forum and his structure.

Wilfredo,

sorry to hear you are disappointed!

I can understand your point, especially as it's supported by other members and the images are really outstanding.

What I can't accept as argument: Making something available to a bigger audience.

Thus I would open the gates for everyone to post his/her stuff in the Leica M9 forum as it finds the biggest audience there.

When posting something to the forum please only consider where a topic fits best, not where it gets most hits.

Sometimes its difficult to decide if more than one topic is affected, but one of the very simple rules is: Images go to the photo section.

Only exception is if they illustrate technical topics.

Please keep in mind that some members are visiting the forum via mobile access or through lines with limited bandwidth where every bit counts.

They won't visit the photo forum too often.

If I had opened the thread in question during my vacations in France or Italy via my iPhone it would have had to pay about 30 Euros to see the images - 8MB à 4 Euros roaming data rate (The images quite worth it, but I'd like to decide it by myself in advance...)

I know that this isn't very popoular sometimes but as editor and moderators we have to keep a clear structure and consider the interests of all users.

Best regards from Bonn

Andreas

Unfortunately the "New Posts" does not always give you that. I regularly find stuff that was added after a visit that never showed up when clicking the icon.

I disagree. If you look at the photo forum you'll see lots of M8 photographs.

I fail to see what objections you can possibly have to a link to the photo thread being a sticky in this forum.

I believe Andreas sees benefits in terms of Google rankings in having the forum split into as many categories as possible. I don't think the forums will be merged any time soon (if ever?). I appreciate that Andreas owns the forum and can do what he likes with it but for me this kind of thinking is symptomatic of how much more 'corporate' and bland the forum has become in recent years.

just add something tecnnical regarding your M8 to the threat and it should return. haha :D
