MEB Posted January 18, 2010 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know the thing is hopelessly decadent, but I've been looking at the Artisan and Artist silk neck strap. Does anyone here actually have and use one on an M camera? If so, what do you think about it? Thanks, Mark
Advertisement Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Hi MEB, Take a look here Silk neck strap?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted January 18, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 18, 2010 "Hopelessly decadent"? It's certainly very comfortable and doesn't catch on fabrics the way some leather straps can. I use one with a D2, which is a little lighter than an M. Pete.
gabriel Posted January 19, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 19, 2010 I ahve used one for the past 2 years on my M8/M9 and find it extremely comfortable. It does not rub my neck and make it sore and the inherant flexability cushions camera bounce. Its not just decadent but it is comfortable to have around your neck all day. stuny Posted January 19, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 19, 2010 Of course, if you like having a camera strap over your shoulder rather than around your neck it would probably slip off too easily.
spylaw4 Posted January 19, 2010 Share #9 Posted January 19, 2010 Just got one - very nice and comfortable - use around neck or wrap around wrist. As Stuart says - it might slip off if used only on shoulder.

LuxBob Posted January 19, 2010 Share #12 Posted January 19, 2010 ...but... It's a bit of coloured string... Regards, Bill A bit like the thing I got for my specs, until my wife siad 'that's just for old men'. I had envisaged something like a male version of a Hermes scarf or tie. farnz Posted January 19, 2010 Share #13 Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) ...but... It's a bit of coloured string... Bill, They're not Artisan and Artist Silk Cord Straps in Christer's picture. The AA Silk Cord Straps are woven silk and are too thick to fit through the lugs so they're terminated in leather with chrome split rings. Pete. alun Posted January 20, 2010 Share #16 Posted January 20, 2010 Hopelessly decadent things always exert such a strong attraction. I've lost count of the number of times I've looked at the A&A braided silk strap -- woven by warrior-princes using centuries-old techniques first perfected by Zen philosophers resting between Samurai contests.... Romance. Glamour. Fabulous rareness. Crafted in mountain fastnesses. Carried to market on the backs of nubile princesses, the low winter sun shining through their virtually transparent silk kimonos.... How have I managed to resist buying a pair? Only my fear -- hopelessly pedestrian, workaday, small-minded -- that the damn things might be too short....
christer Posted January 22, 2010 Share #17 Posted January 22, 2010 ... look like spirit levels... Indeed. I used them in connection with my 15mm lens, but then found that there are more simple ways to avoid converging lines. Anyway I sold my 15mm lens because I got fed up with the screw-to-bayonet adapter getting stuck in the camera when I wanted to change lenses quickly. With the 15 mm lens now available with a bayonet, I may get one of these. I mostly carry my cameras over the shoulder, and I find the string carrier very good for that purpose. It just cuts enough into the jacket to avoid slipping, but you can't feel it.
elansprint72 Posted January 22, 2010 Share #18 Posted January 22, 2010 "Sincerely folks"; I'm convinced that your photographs will be much improved by using these coloured bits of string. The snapshots thread(!) is running for a few more days; feel free to post your contributions. Holy Christ on a bike......................
