pauledell Posted January 18, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 18, 2010 Jaap, This is a wonderful picture. Great composition, tones, depth, sharpness, and atmosphere. I can see myself walking down the trail. Paul

luigi bertolotti Posted January 18, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 18, 2010 GREAT bw treatment !! it's it that makes the pic... how did you worked it ? . I'm curios on the lens too... Uncertain between 35 and 50 (supposed it's a M9 pic...)
jaapv Posted January 18, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted January 18, 2010 Thank you, my friends. . The lens was the Summicron 35 asph on the M9. As for the B&W, It was quite a primitive conversion I used B&W yellow filter in C1.5.0, and just tweaked the tones with levels and curves. I went back and forth between both for three or four times until I got the tones just as I liked them. Glad you like them as well. Another point was the reduction to web size. Bicubic sharper created loads of artefacts, as usual. I never use it for reduction. Bicubic, which I normally use, killed off all the clarity and didn't work either, so I ended up using Bilinear, which was just fine with 20% of smart sharpen @ 0.8 radius and fade the shadows 80%. And I gave just a touch of Cyan toning.
vdb Posted January 19, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 19, 2010 I love this kind of image....winter in the woods creates a wonderful mood in me. I like how the tones transition from deeper blacks in the foreground to grey at then end of the lane. I might play a bit more with the tonal range...maybe bring out more highlight detail in the snow and broaden the foreground shadows....which would make me walk into the photograph:)
