In february I'll go with some friends to Paris.

The idea is to shoot some street photography picture.

Any suggestion for nice places ?

thanks!

Any place in Paris will work for street photography. Don't hesitate to get out the beaten touristic paths, tiny unknown streets are full of surprises sometimes. My favorite though is Les Champs-Elysées, always a lot of people and action.

I also hang arond a lot Rue de Rivoli, Ménilmontant, Le Marais, Quartier Latin, .... actually, really, any place is great for that in Paris.

The street markets are good. My favourite was always the weekend one on rue Mouffetard...

Apologies for the poor scans, I used to think they were ok, now they embarrass me.

The gardens of the Palais Royale were always one of my favourite spots

I'd avoid the wide boulevards and concentrate on the narrower streets of places like the Marais and the Left bank. Too much empty space in the boulevards.

Pont des Arts is always good as there's a lot of human traffic, and the background is iconic.

The best advice would just be to wander round, there are photographs on every street waiting to be seen.

Here's a tip you did not ask for: Paris has more photo exhibitions, both at museums and at galleries, than most other cities. Get one or both of the weekly guides, less than a euro for both of them together. One is called "L'officielle" and the other "Pariscope". One of them even has a special section on photo exhibits. La maison europeen de la photographie is in the Marais (recommended above) and a ten minutes´s walk to Place Bastille. Many of the small streets leading up to Place Bastille (behind the Opera Bastille and to the left of it) have very interesting street life and many nice places to eat without getting ruined. BTW, get yourself bus and subway maps. Public transport is excellent and cheap. Get yourself a carnet of ten tickets at a time, that saves time. Bus rides are great to get to know the city. And one last word: Parisians are friendly when properly approached.

Where's your Nocti Pont des Arts wedding shot, Steve?

Max,

my favorite location is the Luxemboug Gardens...

Jardin du Luxembourg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Medici fountain, in the gardens, is built with a strange optical illusion.

Plenty of photo opportunities there!

to Steve: that is a masterpiece!

There is absolutely no recipe for that. The universal language is your only bet, which is a simple smile.

A balaclava and baseball bat helps :)

Also, speaking French with an atrocious accent is the only way to get them to speak English.

Le Pont des Arts is such a nice place at dusk... and your picture is magnificently portraying the ambience that one can enjoy there!

Steve- That's one beautiful shot.

As for Paris stroll along the banks of the Seine, always a nice subject about. Also head up to the Trocadero for the best view of the Eiffel Tower at night :)

I had frankly never heard of the area nor visited during my stops in Paris. Given its history it certainly is understandable why it is not at the top of the "must see" list for the casual tourist. None the less it's a part of history and would probably make an interesting stop for a return visitor.

There is so much to see in Paris and I am always surprised when I hear of another spot I have missed during my journeys.
