Advertisement Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Hi Clandrel, Take a look here 35mm Chron on M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gwelland Posted January 10, 2010 Share #2 Posted January 10, 2010 Closest thing you'll get to an equivalent of a 50mm 'standard' lens ... and it would sit nicely between your 24 & 90 for an almost ideal pairing It's as good a lens on the M8 as it is on film/M9. I've used this lens extensively in the past as my single walkabout lens.
jsrockit Posted January 10, 2010 Share #3 Posted January 10, 2010 I don't think you can go wrong with the lens can you? I'm thinking of getting one too and everything I've read about all versions of this lens is really good. 47mm, sharp and small lens with a nice "bokeh" for the M8... how can we go wrong? (anyone?) luigi bertolotti Posted January 10, 2010 Share #4 Posted January 10, 2010 Fits well between your 24 and 90... ... the Asph is a fantastic lens, but I have not comparision with the latest non asph (my other Cron 35 is a super old first series, 8 elements, and is definitely of another time). Clandrel Posted January 10, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted January 10, 2010 I bought a 50mm Summarit today, but I was thinking of returning it to buy a used 35 Chron.
gwelland Posted January 10, 2010 Share #6 Posted January 10, 2010 I always found 50mm a slightly uncomfortable focal length with the M8. Not quite long enough and not quite wide enough, although some like it as a portrait lens.
jaapv Posted January 10, 2010 Share #7 Posted January 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please - Calling a Summicron a Cron is bad enough - but a "Chron" ? Quite apart from that it is an excellent lens on the M8.
gwelland Posted January 10, 2010 Share #8 Posted January 10, 2010 Please - Calling a Summicron a Cron is bad enough - but a "Chron" ? Perhaps if you put a matchstick in the aperture ring at the focal point you could use it as a primitive timepiece when the sun is out A somewhat poor and expensive sundial perhaps. But it's still a great lens whatever you call it.
Clandrel Posted January 11, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted January 11, 2010 Well, I'm sorry my english isn't up to your standards! You understood my question. Why make all the fuzz? C
jaapv Posted January 11, 2010 Share #10 Posted January 11, 2010 Summicron is German.. Based on the often used Leica prefix Summi and cron for Kron glass, which was first developed by Leica to be used in the original Summikron, soon changed to Summicron. To many Leica users the abbreviations Cron, Noct, Lux, Rit, etc. grate on the ear. And if they get distorted... Ah well, a lens is a lense...
gwelland Posted January 11, 2010 Share #11 Posted January 11, 2010 And the rest of us could care less what you call it or the quality of the engish/spelling - we all know what you mean and that's what matters here in an international forum.

spylaw4 Posted January 11, 2010 Share #15 Posted January 11, 2010 Chron, Kron, Cron, whatever - just don't hesitate - go and get one.!
iwskipper Posted January 11, 2010 Share #16 Posted January 11, 2010 The 35 mm Summicron ASPH is one of my favourite lens and a small lens with a nice "bokeh". But remember, on a M8 its a 47 mm lens Regards JUS
jsrockit Posted January 11, 2010 Share #17 Posted January 11, 2010 I think I may have to pick up a Khron!
Bo_Lorentzen Posted January 11, 2010 Share #18 Posted January 11, 2010 Highly recommended, the cron is probably a much better over-all performer than the lux on the M8.! it is likely to become a permanent body-cap .
luigi bertolotti Posted January 11, 2010 Share #19 Posted January 11, 2010 I always found 50mm a slightly uncomfortable focal length with the M8. Not quite long enough and not quite wide enough, although some like it as a portrait lens. Same for me, but admit that 24 50 90 is a "correct" trio, obviously... Photoskeptic Posted January 13, 2010 Share #20 Posted January 13, 2010 Mine lives on the M8. When I got the M8 I threw my 50 cron on it - still do occasionally, but I missed the "true" 50mm focal length. Bought the 35 Cron ASPH and never looked back.
