h00ligan Posted December 29, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 29, 2009 dear all, been using my dl4 for the past few months but really like to learn more about photography in general, can anyone offer a good online course for photography? Thanks Are you looking for free courses or do you have a budget in mind? I've heard good things about the betterphoto and kelby courses but they aren't cheap. **edit** I just came across this - may be worth a look. http://www.morguefile.com/docs/Classroom
Sandokan Posted December 29, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 29, 2009 apogeephoto.groupee.net - Powered by Social Strata They run various courses covering the basics, more advanced as well as the compositional courses. I benefited when I had time to devote to each of the projects and it did sharpen my eye - sadly I dont have as much time now as I did when I took them. topoxforddoc Posted December 29, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 29, 2009 Menace, The best thing you can do is to shoot more. Then be brave enough to post some pictures! Once you post your first pic, I guarantee that you will learn very quickly. As many photographers know, it's not what you use, but how you use it. Oh and the hard bit is "seeing the image", not learning about F stops (although some basic knowledge is useful). Martin Parr, the Magnum photographer has done books with the pics taken in "Photo-Me" booths, as well as projects just using a camera-phone. My photography improved very quickly once I was brave enough to lay my soul bare in this forum. Browse the photo forum (as well as books and exhibitions) and you'll see what works and learn what you need to know. Good luck,

kalina Posted December 31, 2009 Share #8 Posted December 31, 2009 dear all, been using my dl4 for the past few months but really like to learn more about photography in general, can anyone offer a good online course for photography? Thanks A college course with 10 or more students in the class will teach you so much more about technique and critique than an online course. Nothing beats being able to ask a question to a professor and have it answered right then and there. The teacher-to-student and student-to-student interaction in a college course is unparalled. I'm very old school when it comes to learning. I believe everything can be learned better via a course with a good flesh and blood teacher. If you want to do it all online, you might as well buy a few books and talk to an experienced photographer who is patient enough to answer your questions. h00ligan Posted December 31, 2009 Share #9 Posted December 31, 2009 Lately I would have to agree with the last statement. As much as i learn from online communities and books, i think a few classes at a local community college would be irreplaceable.

ricardojh Posted December 31, 2009 Share #11 Posted December 31, 2009 If you are looking for something more structured than the free web sources, try the Picture Perfect School of Photography, affiliated with Adorama. Here you get lessons and feedback from a pro and interaction with the other students as well. The prices are also reasonable. Ricardo
h00ligan Posted December 31, 2009 Share #12 Posted December 31, 2009 At ~$400 for an 8 week course on beginning photog, I'd rather interact with people in a classroom - get feedback on assignments etc - especially at such a rudimentary level Just my prference, but thanks for the link! Additionally, these courses look like the books I've been recommended. I'm not sure how they will be presented, but at least a few of the courses seem to mirror the books (exposure, seeing creatively).
