jimleicam3 Posted December 24, 2009 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have tremendous faith that the world financial situation will turn around in 2010, so I am going to add a new lens to my M8. At this time I have a 35 mm f/2, and a 50 mm f/1.4. Both that I love. I would love to go wider, so I have been thinking of the 18 mm f/3.8. Please post some more pros and cons. Thanks, Cheers! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!!
Advertisement Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Hi jimleicam3, Take a look here More comments please on the 18 mm f/3.8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cbretteville Posted December 25, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 25, 2009 You'll need a finder and I recommend the Zeiss 25/28 finder. It is so much brighter than anything else I've seen. A little more pricy than the VC25 finder, but still half the price of the Leica finder. The new Leica's pro is that it also has 18mm frame lines for full frame usage. konradhorst Posted December 25, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 25, 2009 Or you can buy the 24 mm finder from the Dlux 4 for 250€. it is optical the same as the viewfinder for 650 € for Leica M.
sfokevin Posted December 25, 2009 Share #4 Posted December 25, 2009 I have the 18mm and don't use a finder... Over time you will develop a sense of the framelines which is just a bit bigger than the viewerer... I love this lens for architecture shots... The only drawback I would say is the pink hue that occurs on the left hand side... But Sandy's Cornerfix takes care of this for the most part... Don Morley Posted December 25, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 25, 2009 I bought the 18mm just over a year ago and can't fault it, in fact I also had the CA 15mm and 21mm and thought they were good UNTIL I got the 18mm f3.8 and found it to be stunning in every way, superb contrast, no vigneting (On M8 I don't know about on M9), no distortion, and far better definition than either of the other two. Its no contest actually! Anyway I soon sold both of the CA lenses and bought a seconhand Leica 24mm finder whose framing is of course spot on for the 18mm on a M8, and though I have the Tri-Elmar, 24mm F2.8 Asp, 35mm f2 Asp etc etc, I still find the 18mm lens most useful of all. Good luck whicheve way you go. Don
