Is Your Name on Multiple Lists?

It is obvious that demand for the M9 is outstripping supply, but I am curious: How many people have signed up with more than one dealer for delivery of an M9 and plan to cancel all the remaining orders when the first one comes in? You be may 20th on the list at one dealer, but in actuality you may fifth or sixth on the list.

For the record, I am on one list.

I was on one list...until about two weeks ago my Leica dealer told me they had received one camera and might not get another until well into the new year. His comment to me was "we're in a town that is not big on Leica." Being third on the list, that night I placed an order with B&H.

I'm only on one list. Ordered Nov. 14th from Keeble & Shuchat Photography in Palo Alto, CA. When I spoke to Jeff last week he said that they were expecting a delivery this week.

I called Tuesday and some dude got on the phone and said "We'll call you when it comes in...that's what we do...we always call." I paid in full at time of order. So much for "next week". Maybe they meant the other "next week", you know, ...in March.

We'll see.

I figured I would call around and find one, and lucked out. A couple of other forum members have done the same.

If I were to put my name on a list, it would only be one list, and only if I was 100% committed to completing the transaction.

ROFLMAO(YSST)!

This will be a great thread to watch develop.

GASP as the first person admits to being on TWO lists!

BOO and HISS at their unethical act!

BE ASTOUNDED at their feeble excuses for LYING to TWO DEALERS and LEICA!!!

*sits back with popcorn*

Regards,

Bill

I put my name in the one list 1st week of Nov, the price was USD 7400 :(, it's ok since I would pay the same amount if I order outside country, but later I found out that the dealer raising the price to USD 8000, so now I'm putting my name in multiple list, hope will gain a fair price...btw I live in Indonesia

I was on two lists but told the two dealers I usually do business with - both had no problems with that. They (rightly) figured that demand would outstrip supply and that they would have long waiting lists anyway.

Both M9 arrived on the same day last Tuesday.

Got one call at 9:30 am, and the second one two hours later.

I bought it from the first dealer who called and told the second one he could go ahead and make another Leica customer happy before Xmas - he answered he would need at least 15 more to satisfy everyone...

Now someone can be whipped, crucified, burnt on a bonfire, etc. - and, more importantly, Bill can relax and have his popcorn:eek:

My question is non-judgmental. I am just curious how much the demand and perceptions about demand have been artificially pumped up. Putting your name on multiple lists is perfectly rationale economic behavior.

The question now is: Are very few people on multiple lists, or are the people who are on multiple lists afraid that if they acknowledge that in a public forum that lurking dealers might remove them from lists?

hmmm..with names like msk2193, rob3rt5 and stealthman_1, i don't think any dealer would do much about that but with a name like bill they probably could:rolleyes:

i commiserate with you..since a lot of customers willing to pay over and above official retail price do exist particularly in asia, i recommend that you get yourself onto a reputable dealer's list or lists such as b+h or david farkas in the us or robert white in the uk where the prices are fixed and delivery is steady. it's all very well to be high and mighty about it but there's no telling how long dealer and distributor profiteering will last but for the moment it's certainly going to mean that you'll wait a lot longer for your m9. definitely don't pay more than you should just because it's local. i really think this issue is far worse and should be addressed by leica and reputable dealers than the issue of being on multiple lists..you did the right thing in my mind

... I am just curious how much the demand and perceptions about demand have been artificially pumped up....

It has been said often before: demand from customers who put themselves on one or more lists is not the same as demand from retailers sent to Leica.

Any retailer may act different: one might order as much as he can get with no regards to his lists, the other 50 only when he has 50 on his lists, the third might order 20 when he has 50 on his lists, another may send individual demands to Leica every day(???), every week or fortnight or month after he gets the customers`orders. This may correspond to retailers' practizes with prepayment, or correspond to what Leica agencies in different states tell them and so on - worldwide.

So you can only estimate the real demand if you look on the retailers' shelves. If you find your object of desire loitering around there, real demand may smaller than estimated. If every retailer tells you that it has to be ordered and he does not know when he will get it, it will be the other way round.

What's your experience with the M9: do you see it on the shelves?

I'll give my halo an extra bit of a polish, as I'm not on any lists. :)

Good for you Nicole. Me neither :D

I refuse to be on any list of any kind. It offends my sense of personal uniqueness.:):)
