The last to post has made the statement, no one challenged it so I guess he must be right

yep, it was somewhere on the internet so it must be right!

I have made the same suggestion numerous times over the years, but always the response has been Leica wouldn't want to damage sales of their own system. Now that they don't have a system what's to damage? Unless of course there is something more than just a 3rd party 'solution' in the pipeline?

It certainly would be foolish to abandon the Leica-R lens designs. As to why Leica hasn't made these gems available in other camera mounts, I suspect there's something more than stupidity involved. I don't think Leica is ignoring you, in fact I'm willing to bet Leica has thought of this idea too.

There's a rumour that Leica are about to auction off some or all of the R lens tools, so maybe that will give someone else an opportunity to use them (as opposed to buying them and putting them in a box, somewhere)

Leica couldn't make lenses for either of the two big Japanese camera makers, even if they wanted to, because of copyright issues with the mounts. Zeiss don't have this problem becasue they are owned by the Japanese.

If proven true, that would be utterly stupid on their part and would cement the decisions by some to leave the brand altogether.

I'm not quite sure that Leica has many specific R lens tools. Most of the production of the R lenses was in the general lens production line. The only lens line that has its own dedicated tools group afaik is the Summarit line afaik.
