  1. Today the news. There is a new MP/M6 camera, or should I say a new M3 camera. Who is interested? Leica M-A // Leica M // Fotografie - Leica Camera AG
  2. Do you use a half case? Show us the images of your beauties! What are in your opinion the benefits? What is the best half case out there? Curious and eager to see!
  3. Hello, Since sime days, i this idea, of getting an Leica M again. I've used one in the past, but switched to the Sl system instead. Since i currently able to afford an M10, used or new, i looked ar older Models. The M9 and M8 came to my mind at first, but then i got another idea: there are leicas, like the m1 or M-Da. You can get them for like under 600$. What if you took an Digital Camera disasamble it and put it into an M-Da? Has anyone else had this idea, or even tried it? If yes, which camera did you use? Im Still debating on the fact that it kinda would mean to "disleica" an camera, but since its an M-Da? Thank you for your answers
  4. Most forum members are probably up to speed on CCD vs. CMOS sensors already. For those who may still have unanswered questions, here's an interesting and in depth comparison of CCD and CMOS sensors: I found it to be quite informative; I hope others will, too.
  5. Tim Parkin performed an interesting comparison of images with 6x7 Fuji Velvia (Mamiya 7) and 36mp digital (Nikon D800E). It's a couple of years old but still an interesting exercise. Link here: https://www.onlandscape.co.uk/2014/12/36-megapixels-vs-6x7-velvia/
  6. This was taken in March, 2016, with Sony a7ii camera on which was mounted a Leica 90mm Elmar f4 lens, from 1951. I'm going to keep this lens, it has the look I want.
  7. Given both of these are DNG format, I am just wondering if there is any need to convert to the Lightroom DNG format on import or can I leave in the Leica format? Which is better for processing in Lightroom?
  8. Hi, I have read/been told conflicting things re sharpening. Some say its better to do before commencing adjustments in Lightroom while other say it should be done as the last step once everything is done. Perhaps its a combination of both. Can anyone set me straight on this? Thanks kindly.
  10. I know that this thought has been beaten almost to death, and that there have been several attempts to accomplish this, but I would like to gauge interest in a Leica M* conversion. With the new M9, the advances in sensor technology is apparent, and especially with the new Kodak full frame sensors (and micro-lenses to prevent falloff at the edges of the sensor) doing a full-frame Leica M conversion seems to be a possibility. To the extent that I am investing a great deal of time and energy to develop a prototype. I will be using 16 megapixel full-frame Kodak sensors. The product is intended not to be simply a digital back; as there is not really enough room to install all the electronics in the small back door of the M camera, this would be a conversion kit. There would be a new rear door that would house the CCD, and the rear LCD display. Also the bottom film load would be replaced with battery housing/SD card slot, and a processor in the take-up side. These conversions would be intended to be done in-house at first, and then perhaps a kit would be made available for those who would prefer to do it themselves. There would be no modification done to the camera itself, so that the conversion would be fully reversible, and upgradeable. (This is not an offer to sell, it is merely an attempt to gauge interest, and demand before I pour more of my $$ into the project.) My questions for you: 1: What is an acceptable target price to be a reasonably affordable alternative to the M9? Keep in mind, that the sensors alone will be nearly $1000 each from Kodak. 2: Would a lower priced product using a cropped sensor (like the M8) be desired? 3: What feature requests do you have?
Gruss, panorama
  12. I recently wrote to Leica Germany asking if there would be a "digital solution for Leica R users" (from Leica itself) and mentioned that I was looking at the recently released Panasonic GH1 as a possible alternative "crossover solution". Their reply came back this morning and I quote: "Dear Mr Hodges, thank you very much for your request. We know very well about this serious situation concerning the following system of the R-system. Unfortunately it was not possible for the Leica Camera AG to develop a digital camera body for the R-system simultaneous to the new S-System. But our important aim is to continue the R-system into the digital technology and we are engaged to offer our R-customers an optimal solution which allows using the analogue lenses in combination with a fully digital body. For the necessary technical innovations the S-System will be an ambitious platform to integrate proved features into the new R-follower. We still cannot release any exact data about the introduction date of the new system, but be asssured, it won’t be introduced in the next 6 month. Thank you for your understanding." This also aligns with information I received from the distributor in Australia recently, who implied that something was happening, but not to expect an announcement before Photokina 2010. Life is good again, start saving your pennies Graeme.
  13. So as you could probably discern from the title, I don't own anything Leica; unfortunately. However, I am hoping to jump into this wonderful "little" company sometime soon; however, I have a question or two. I have researched quite intensely for the past few months about rangefinders, their advantages and disadvantages, and the M8 and M8.2. I can't decide though which model would be better suited for me. Myself being a self proclaimed Leica virgin, I don't know if I could justify the additional price premium of the M8.2 over the M8. Do you guys think that the advantages in the M8.2 would really justify the extra grand or two in the aftermarket considering that I am brand new to this whole Leica field?
  14. Haven't posted for quite some time but thought I'd mention for those interested that my local dealer Robert White has a 'Big Weekend' coming up on 7th and 8th November. Leica will be there with the M9 plus lenses to play with. There also looks to be some excellent speakers over the weekend. Details can be found at Robert White - Specialist Camera and Photographic Suppliers of Nikon, Canon, Leica, Hasselblad, Mamiya, Zeiss Ikon, Voigtlander, Quantum etc.

  18. After the M9 unveiling yesterday I spoke with Leica Camera CEO Rudi Spiller. The transcript is on my blog. I couldn't ask everything forum members suggested but I hope some of his answers are interesting anyway.

  21. Hi to all Leica lovers, I'm new to the forum, at least as registered user, and I want to thank you all for all your invisible support you gave me when searching for precious info about Leica. Probably the best resource online on this specific and lovable world. I'm interested to test some 35mm prime lenses (no Leica) for my digital M. I've heard about great results with: Voigtlander 35mm f2.5 Color Skopar Zeiss Biogon C 35mm f2.8 Zeiss Biogon C 35mm f2.0 (someone online affirming it is not sharp as the Zeiss 2.8) I know this is probably an old challenge but I just wanted to follow up it on 2020 , and I'm interested to a new lens. Anyone here who want to share its opinion both on digital or analogical is very very welcome. Furthermore....is it worth the Zeiss price gap (currently double the price for new)? Thanks a lot WanLevia
  22. I have an M7 and an M8. While I love both cameras for their unique qualities and stellar performance, I have come to the realization that living with both a film-M and a digital-M can often be difficult. I'm referring to the need to constantly remove the IR filters from the lenses whenever I use the M7, and reverse the process when I need to go digital. Fortunately, I only have four lenses, but even with this small number, I find it a downright hassle to have to go through this every time I make the switch. Worse than that, is just having to remember to do it. A few times I did forget and ended up with some bad color shifts. I'd love to go all digital, but I still like to shoot film for certain subjects. Anyone else share this frustration? Got any advise on how to make living with both cameras easier?
  23. I thought readers might interested in seeing the two images included here. One was shot with my MP using Kodak Tri-X, exposed at a speed of 200. The neg was scanned on a Nikon ED9000. The other, taken at the same project, was shot with my M8. The raw conversion was made in Aperture and the black and white conversation was made using Nik Software Silver Efec Pro. I used the film profile in Efec Pro for Tri-X. Of course these are low res images, but even in full resolution, you cannot tell which is which unless you look at the file size. Anyone care to guess?
