The Leica Forum Book - where are you?

You shouldn't have excluded people, which are less than 3 months member of this forum.

I fully agree. Posted this in the other thread to no avail.

Gentlemen, as I have explained before, I introduced this rule to discourage those who join just for this purpose. We saw a lot of this during "One Leica Day" - people who had never been seen before or since who fired in an entry.

The rule will not be changed. End of discussion.

Regards,

Bill

I certainly respect your decision, but each "unwelcome" entry would have earned your cause valuable cash, new member or not. I would have £30 and photos waiting at the click of a mouse, but I do want to feel welcome. So if you choose to be choosy... tough luck.

A donation does not "buy" you a right to have your photo or photos included. There is nothing stopping you donating to a worthy cause anyway through Justgiving, or by buying the eventual book. It's your choice whether or not to be generous.

I didn't ask to change that "rule". And I didn't start a discussion. I accepted it.

But you asked, didn't you? Why this agressive reply?

Nevertheless, I find this rule pointlless at this moment, where the M9 has just been released, which just meant a switch to Leica from other systems for quite a few people, such as me.

I would support an exclusion for new owners of Leica stuff. If someone like Andreas has *just* become a Leica owner, how about relaxing the 3-month rule for them.

Of course, I'll need a pill if I'm to look at a beautiful picture taken by a Leica-newby when I've had all these years to try to learn how to use this stuff.

This is not about "buying" vanity exposure, but rather about your difficult to understand (see the current submission statistics) preference of "old buddies" (those who joined before your deadline) over "newcomers" (whether new to Leica or not).

I generally donate to national or regional associations in my home countries, as this makes it easier for me to follow and relate to their work and the difference they make. Nevertheless, I was interested in contributing to your project, despite never having heard of the AICR before, and thus not being able to relate to it in the same way. Being welcomed, and being able to collaborate on the final book product would have made it easier for me to relate, regardless of whether any of my entries would have ended up in the book or not. Since you made it clear that collaboration is not an option, I'll continue to turn my attention to worthy causes next door just as I did before. I would just have moved on and skipped this thread if it had not been for your rather aggressive response. Thanks and good luck.

Bill. I'm fine with the rules as they are, and I understand how much work this project has been so far. I contributed $$ but have not had time lately to select images. I will submit them by the deadline though.

Great choice for the charity as well.

Following discussions such as the one above, those of us who are organising the Book have had a discussion overnight

Having left the smoke filled room, the beer and the sandwiches, and being 100% reasonable people, we gave decided that to be fair to everyone, the cut off date for membership of the forum for the purposes of submitting photographs for consideration, will be the 23rd November. Therefore, anyone who joined BEFORE the announcement was made is now very welcome to take part

Bill has explained very clearly why the previous cut off date was included, but by amending it, we do now include anyone new to Leica, lucky enough to gave bought an M9 in the first couple of months of it's life.

I hope that this now means that those if you who would have taken part, but for the cut off date, will now do so, and I look forward to seeing your contributions and submissions come through

I will amend the rules thread accordingly.

Thanks

Right decision, I approve: but, I do not understand well the evidenced phrase... I'm not involved, but I think it's not intended to exclude someone who, for example, joined the forum some days before Nov. 23 having already, for instance, a M8 or so, right ?

Of course not

Anyone who was a member of the forum on the day before the announcement was made, with ANY Leica, is welcome to take part in the LUF Book Project

The point was that there are people in this M9 sub-section complaining that they felt excluded. Now they are not.

This is not an M9 project. It's not a digital project. It's not an M project. It's a Leica project.

My opinion doesn't count for anything as I have not contributed at all - just a lurker.

I do want to commend wholeheartedly the organisers of this book though. It is a great idea and I am sure involving very significant effort. Clearly the membership deadline was not perfect for some people, that was taken on board and what to me was an excellent decision was made.

I have 2 regrets for me. Firstly that I had not noticed this project earlier. Secondly, that it is such a shame I epitomise the phrase "all the gear and no idea", so I can't lay my hands on a fantastic image just like that. To my shame (and painful as it is to admit this on a leica forum) all my recent work has been on a canon. Hopefully a new M9 will cure that!

Even if I am not a worthy contributor I would like the organisers to know that I think their efforts for a good cause are great.
