Early firmware versions limited the M8 to non-SDHC cards, and 2GB was the standard limit, with a few special 4GB cards available. This restriction was removed some time ago, and if you are using the current firmware you can in theory use any SDHC card available. However, anything over 8GB will mean that your frame-counter reads 999 until you take enough pictures to get below that. This may take a long time on a very large card. It's always good to use a small standard SD card for firmware updates though. Just in case something goes awry and your camera forgets it can use SDHC cards. p.s. Genova is a lovely city. When i use a 8 gig card and shoot on continuous mode, sometimes the camera freezes..today it got blank, no sign of batery and the red light was blinking.. I took the batery around 5 times until i got a reaction Now it seems its working fine..i hope That make me wonder, if there is a diference between using 4 or 8 gig cards, in terms of buffer speed Thank you Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
Nicoleica Posted December 25, 2009 Share #24 Posted December 25, 2009 Hi Frank, As far as I am aware, the actual size shouldn't make much of a difference, although a more fragmented 8GB card conceivably may take longer to write than a smaller card due to the possibility of more fragments and a larger directory tree. The only time my M8 has locked up was once straight after it returned from Solms. But removing the battery for a few seconds, and reformatting my SD card seemed to cure it and it hasn't happened since. I don't tend to use 'C' mode, and so I can't really help much regarding that. I mainly use my M8 in a more relaxed way, and I use my D700 when I have cause to need an AK47 mode. I hope that your camera is behaving itself now. If you tend to have more problems with one particular card, then if reformatting it doesn't improve things, it might be worth thinking about replacing it. Merry Christmas.
