Advertisement Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Hi epand56, Take a look here M9 vs M8 Pix -- REDUX. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
leicanet Posted November 20, 2009 Share #22 Posted November 20, 2009 This is the first time (well, second or third time really, out of hundreds of pictures I have seen on the web so far, and out of the few took by myself when trying an M9 at the Leica store in Mayfair, London -I wasn't too impressed-) that I actually and finally see an M9 picture that has no reds all over and which is visibly and clearly BETTER than the M8's. Very nice picture(s) indeed. It makes the M9 more tempting...although yesterday I bought a 4 months old M8.2 for less than half price of a new M9, and I think that for many non-pros/amateurs like me, that is the wiser choice right now, the M9 (for many people I guess) is just too expensive to be justified over an M8.2. Mauribix Posted December 2, 2009 Share #23 Posted December 2, 2009 My only excuse is i do not have the money so far... But it will arrive... Oh Enrico, on the other hand you've got a friend pushing you for the M9.... feel the pressure!!!!
jaapv Posted December 2, 2009 Share #24 Posted December 2, 2009 I can only agree. better contrast transitions, more subtle rendering of microcontrast, better nuances in color...Software is catching up. It is better than I expected or even hoped.
wparsonsgisnet Posted December 2, 2009 Author Share #25 Posted December 2, 2009 Here are the same images with sharpening and nr turned off in C1. I have made then shorter so they might appear on the same viewing screen. M9; then, M8. [Had to post a second nd 3rd time because I forgot to set the M9 to the same wb as the M8.] Welcome, dear visitor! proenca Posted December 2, 2009 Share #26 Posted December 2, 2009 Thanks Bill, your thread is the best M8 vs M9 I've seen so far Great pictures by the way !
wparsonsgisnet Posted December 2, 2009 Author Share #27 Posted December 2, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks. 1. This was a lot harder than I thot it would be 2. The M9 is *really* nice and I appreciate having one. The bride becomes more tolerant all the time....
chris_tribble Posted December 2, 2009 Share #28 Posted December 2, 2009 Bill - although we all know how impossible it is to evaluate from screen jpegs, your shots do show the remarkable difference in control of shadow detail that the M9 gives. Where things would have broken up or blocked on the M8, the M9 holds the subtle gradation... Thanks... I don't have an M8 any longer so can't do the comparison - nice to see someone else doing this. wparsonsgisnet Posted December 2, 2009 Author Share #29 Posted December 2, 2009 Chris, what amazes me is that we can see this in a 100kb jpeg! I still haven't printed, but will do so now, with these images that have no C1 input.
luigi bertolotti Posted December 2, 2009 Share #30 Posted December 2, 2009 Oh Enrico, on the other hand you've got a friend pushing you for the M9.... feel the pressure!!!! I'm approaching the mood in which is BETTER for me that M9 isn't readily available... don't know what could happen if I'd enter a shop and SEE one ready for sale... lct Posted December 3, 2009 Share #31 Posted December 3, 2009 Here are the same images with sharpening and nr turned off in C1... Thank you Bill. I don't see significant differences with the pics with NR and sharpening turned on i must say. Not so easy to compare due to different sizes though.
