LUF Admin Posted November 16, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I already mentioned this several times, here's the official announcement: The annual International Member Meeting will be different next year! We'll meet during the Photo Festival "Horizons" in Zingst: - Zingst Foto Festival (German) - Zingst Photo Festival (Google Translation) The Festival will take place 29th Mai - 6th June, our member meeting with workshops will be on 4th/5th June. So far the first information, everything else has to be negotiated with the Leica Akademie and the festival director during the next weeks and months. I'll keep you informed! spylaw4 Posted November 16, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 16, 2009 I'll join in if possible - transport permitting.
spylaw4 Posted November 16, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 16, 2009 Hmm - travel for the international set could be challenging. Definitely fly to Rostock/Hamburg/Berlin and hire a car.
veraikon Posted November 16, 2009 Share #7 Posted November 16, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hmm - travel for the international set could be challenging. Definitely fly to Rostock/Hamburg/Berlin and hire a car. There is a regular (hourly) train service to Barth (opposite to Zingst on main land) with coressponding bus service. For british guests Lübeck airport (Ryanair) and rail could be interesting (N.B. rail services in Mac Pomm is normaly from the "regional type": no ICE only a low number of IC trains)
andybarton Posted November 16, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 16, 2009 I'd rather walk from Hamburg, than catch RyanAir anywhere closer.... I'm thinking that taking my own car is a feasible option this time. Could even pick up London based chums on the way
hoppyman Posted November 16, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 16, 2009 Ok I should be in! I have to go for the record of person travelling furthest again next year. Now if I could only find Zingst on a map! Keen to share transport from Berlin (or wherever else is close!) if anyone is putting together a carload. I might spend some days in Berlin first (plus some other Euro destinations if I can put it together). If I need something specific from Leica I might just have to train down to Solms via Frankfurt as well.
cbretteville Posted November 16, 2009 Share #10 Posted November 16, 2009 I'm penciled in too. It will depend a bit on a) the economy and communications. I can fly to Hamburg easily. Then it looks like a four+ hour train ride or a hire car. Guess us international can see if we can join up. Carl
Sandokan Posted November 17, 2009 Share #11 Posted November 17, 2009 I am going but havent decided yet how to get there. My choices of travel are: hire a car from home and drive (we are a one car family); take the train or fly Easyjet to Hamburg and hire a car. I will NOT take Ryan Air! For me, picking people up from Kiel or Lübeck would not be a problem - I may well stay in Oldenburg-im-Holstein for a few days and both of these are easy to get to from Hamburg by train for those that fly there. Also, dont forget there is a train directly from Copenhagen to Hamburg via Oldenburg and Lübeck, for those on an European tour. Geoff - if I do drive and you want to go to Frankfurt, then as that is on my way you can "hoppy-in" or hoppyout on the way back .
andybarton Posted February 23, 2010 Share #12 Posted February 23, 2010 Any further news on who/what/why/etc? I am thinking about booking my flights etc soon. (If Lufthansa are still willing to fly ) I am thinking that a flight to Copenhagen on the Thursday (early) could yield an interesting day there, then a drive round to Zingst in the afternoon, for a late arrival there and an early start on the Friday. Return home on the Sunday - drive into Denmark and mooch about on the coast, back to the airport for an evening flight home.

LUF Admin Posted February 23, 2010 Author Share #15 Posted February 23, 2010 [schmal]Folks, thanks for asking! Together with Oliver Richter of the Leica Akademy we have been working on the program! The member meeting will take place this year during the Horizonte Festival in Zingst. The festival starts on Saturday, May 29th - we start on Thursday (June 3rd) evening and will have program during Friday and Saturday. The festival continues until Sunday. The Leica Academy will offer two workshops: Friday afternoon: Water - Trees - Landscape" at the Prerow West Beach Saturday: Boat tour on the "Darss" Leica will offer LEICA M9 for lend. I'm going to meet with the festival director Peter Prast in the next weeks (when the snow is gone) and will clear up the details. Here's a little bit more of the festival programm (German only) Horizonte Workshops 2010 English Google translation This year the event will be very different from last year: Less Leica forum members, more Leica participation, different place, great landscape and great exhibition and workshop program. Looking forward to meet you! Andreas

andybarton Posted February 23, 2010 Share #17 Posted February 23, 2010 There look like a number of very interesting routes from Copenhagen to Zingst, I have to say
hoppyman Posted February 23, 2010 Share #18 Posted February 23, 2010 Andreas as you have noted this is a very different arrangement than for last year's event. I did thoroughly enjoy that one. I came from Australia. Because the emphasis is on the workshops and the festival of course, I don't feel that I can get the best value from this programme. Since I only speak English, I am limited in the value I can receive from these type of events. At Hessenpark it did not matter so much as the workshops were informal and free. Touring the factory and Customer Service were wonderful parts of the programme for me as well. The location means that it is more difficult to get to (coming internationally) I can't easily visit Solms Customer service either of course. Never mind, I do appreciate just how much work went into organising last year's event as well as this one. I wish all of my forum friends from last year a very successful and enjoyable event. andybarton Posted February 23, 2010 Share #19 Posted February 23, 2010 Geoff My German is limited, to say the least. I have no qualms about planning a trip to Zingst in June. It should be fun. You've been to Germany. You know how Germans are. They're very decent people, who make people welcome. You won't be the only non-German there. There will be me (Hopefully...) The workshops may be a challenge, but bloody hell, if you're in Europe at the time, come on, where's your Dunkirk spirit? (Oh, hang on.. ) In all my trips to Germany, on business or pleasure, I have always found everyone I have met to be friendly, accommodating and very willing to help a weary traveller. I have found more "friendship from strangers" in Germany than in any other European country, and that includes those where I have more than a smattering of the language. I was once in a bar with some colleagues a couple of years ago. Liverpool were playing another team in the Champions' League, but we were watching Bayern Munich play their game on the TV in a bar in the town in which we were staying. My son was SMS'ing me the score from the Liverpool game (which we won) and it was obvious to the clientele that I was a Liverpool supporter. After the match, my friends and I went to the pool table. After 10 minutes, a German girl tapped me on the shoulder and said, in less than perfect English, that the highlights of the Liverpool match were now on the TV, and would I like to join her friends. I gladly accepted (my pool is rubbish ) but I spent a really enjoyable hour with a whole table of Germans whom I'd never met, and whose language I'd learned for only one year at school when I was thirteen. I am ashamed to say that I doubt the same welcome would have been offered to a German, in England, under the same circumstance. So, long story etc, but, if you are around, in Northern Europe, at the beginning of June, I'm happy to hold your hand.
hoppyman Posted February 24, 2010 Share #20 Posted February 24, 2010 Andy I completely agree regarding the friendliness and helpfulness of all of the German folk (and other forum members of course) and did thoroughly enjoy my visit last year. Germany is easily my favourite part of Europe that I've seen so far for just ease of getting around and walking for hours with a camera. Last year I was very fortunate to actually be in Frankfurt (with my wife at a conference) so coordinating with the Forum activities AND being able to visit Leica was a no-brainer. The Baltic coast is a little further for me than for EU members This time I would have to organise a dedicated trip which would need to include additional travel arrangements to the Baltic coast of course, not to mention trying to arrange accommodation near Zingst when the main festival will have already been running and the place presumably overrun with many photo folks more than the Forum members. Add to that some hundreds of Euro extra for the workshops activities where it's not clear which ones I could participate well in. I REALLY enjoyed every part of last year's gathering and made some great new friends. Of course I had hoped to meet you as well this year. I'll keep working on another visit (maybe around Photokina!)
