nikarlo Posted November 11, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 11, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi! I'm new in this forum. My name is Carlo and I write from Italy. I'm 27 and I study environmental economy. I've start photograpy at 15 with contax, then I swapped to nikon for digital, I've had several nikon cameras before changing again to Canon and 5d and now 5dmk2 with a lot of manual focus lenses contax, leica, nikon and olympus. Some days ago I've tried an M9 and I decide to buy an used chr M8. As first lenselmarit 2,8 I've choose summicron 40mm CL, then I'll consider a skopar 21mm and now I?m choosing for a telephoto lens in economical range. With Canon 5d I've used an R two cams summicron f2 and I've loved it. But for M is quite expensive. So I can't choose between elmar f4 (CL and normal), elamrit 2,8 or voitglander 75 or 90. Between 75 and 90 I prefer 75 that in m8 will have a fov of above 100mm. Thanks Carlo. But I love oof area, smoot bokeh and good performante at large aperture. Advertisement Posted November 11, 2009 Posted November 11, 2009 Hi nikarlo, Take a look here cheap 75 90mm lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
johnalex141r Posted November 11, 2009 Share #2 Posted November 11, 2009 Hi Carlo; I was looking for a 75, but the "local" store had a CV90. I picked it up, and it is one of my lenses that go everywhere. I take a Leica 28/2, 50/1.4 and the CV 90, so it is in good company. All on the M8, of course. geoffreyg Posted November 12, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 12, 2009 I have a CV 75 2.5 which I like a lot. Lovely feel. Welcome.
epand56 Posted November 12, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 12, 2009 Ciao Carlo, benvenuto sul Forum. If you already have the Summicron-C 40/2, that is an outstanding performer, I suggest you to look for and buy its brother, the Elmar-C 90mm f/4, the other lens made for the CL, a small, not at all expensive (180€) and very, very sharp lens. Given the low price it is worth a try. The 90 on the M8 has a beautiful FOV in my opinion.
ArtZ Posted November 12, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 12, 2009 I have a CV 75 2.5 which I like a lot. Lovely feel. Welcome. +1 The CV 75/2.5 is, indeed, a very good lens. For some it's optically better (or equal) than the Leica Summarit 75/2.5 and 5 times cheaper...
nikarlo Posted November 12, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted November 12, 2009 Thanks! So I'm looking for 75 CV or 90mm elmar C or both so I'll be free to decide which is better for me.

wilfredo Posted November 12, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 12, 2009 Another option is a 90mm Konica Hexanon for the M. A minty used one will serve you well. I have the f/2.0 50mm Hexanon and I've gotten nothing but excellent results with it.
luigi bertolotti Posted November 13, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 13, 2009 Ciao Carlo, e benvenuto ! Elmar 90 C is really excellent (I SOLD mine no more than 2 months ago... ) but remember that to have the UVIR filter for it is a little problematic... not impossible, indeed, but an issue to adress... expecially if you want to use a hood too (same problem with the Summicron 40)
epand56 Posted November 13, 2009 Share #10 Posted November 13, 2009 I SOLD mine no more than 2 months ago... Luigi, did you need some money to buy the cigrettes?...
!Nomad64 Posted November 13, 2009 Share #11 Posted November 13, 2009 Benvenuto, Carlo. Depending on your budget you might think about used lenses, such as a 90/2.8 Elmarit M. Very sharp and reasonably compact lens. Perhaps my favorite. If your budget does not so consent you might think about LTM lenses with an adapter ring. LTM lenses generally come for cheaper on the 2nd hand market. CV are generally good performers but lose something on the assembly quality, with samples that may differ one from an another. They are however absolute bangs for the buck. Ciao
nikarlo Posted November 13, 2009 Author Share #12 Posted November 13, 2009 Ok, thanks to all again! Today I've received M8 and I'm very happy! Filter are problematic for the 40,5mm size? I've found bw filter or I can professional cut a 52mm marumi (it's supposed to be leica filter manufacture) to put inside one of my numerous 40,5 soviet filter. luigi bertolotti Posted November 13, 2009 Share #13 Posted November 13, 2009 Luigi, did you need some money to buy the cigrettes?... I'm a pipe smoker... ... but sold my complete CL set when realized I probably won't anymore use it... there are my film Ms and IIIf, in case of... for super portability there is also a delicious Rollei 35... and finally I decided that if I really wanted to add a Elmarit 24 asph, having already the 21, this was a sfizio that deserved the self-punishement of throwing away some gear... fuchs Posted November 14, 2009 Share #15 Posted November 14, 2009 Salve Carlo, e benvenuto! The best options are a CV75 and an Elmar-C 90. I have both, but find myself using more the CV75, for its compactness, sharpness, and nice build quality in general With regards to 40.5 filters, look for the B&W ones, they are the best Saluti, Eduardo
Guest mc_k Posted November 14, 2009 Share #16 Posted November 14, 2009 Another vote for the 90 Elmarit. Wide open, it's very pretty and sharp. I think the CV75 is softer (I have a little experience with it, but not much).
johntobias Posted November 16, 2009 Share #17 Posted November 16, 2009 search for a pre-asph/apo 90 'cron.....I got a mint one on ebay for under £500.....its a keeper, chrome so V heavy! as far as image goes, If f4.0 is fast enough for you, the elmar-c is a no-brainer...stunning quality and under £200 usually, I've had 3 in the past and regretted selling each time but in reality, needed a faster 90mm
