danielt Posted November 3, 2009 Share #1 Posted November 3, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M9 is traveling to Solms. The problem is that randomly records the DNG with strips of various colors, not SD card problem: I tried Sandisk, Lexax of different models, formatted, reformatted,: first formated on a PC , then in my M9: I have also tried formatting with the "owerwrite" option and the problem still occurs. I've updated the firmware again and the problem continues. This problem has happened to some other M9 ownwe ?

rebelfocus Posted November 3, 2009 Share #3 Posted November 3, 2009 That's bad luck. Sorry to hear. Hopefully it won't take too long to sort out (if you are lucky they will just replace it) No problems here [touch wood].
M. Valdemar Posted November 3, 2009 Share #4 Posted November 3, 2009 Your body's bio-electronic resonance is out of phase. The warp field is erasing the card. You need to ground yourself and stand in a bucket of ice water for three hours, and the problem will go away.
arminw Posted November 3, 2009 Share #5 Posted November 3, 2009 Not very nice indeed ... I hope your M9 won't be too long away . I have had no problems with mine touch wood !!
Shootist Posted November 4, 2009 Share #6 Posted November 4, 2009 So how long did you have it? You should get a NEW camera, Not have to send it in for repair. The camera can't be 2 months old. Good Luck.
Mauribix Posted November 4, 2009 Share #7 Posted November 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) So how long did you have it? You should get a NEW camera, Not have to send it in for repair. The camera can't be 2 months old. Good Luck. European laws are probably a bit restrictive. In Italy at least you have 8days for a fault to show up giving you the right to get a NEW camera. At the ninth day, you can't but get the camera fixed. Obviously, that's true unless Leica Camera is willing to give you a brand new camera despite of its "age". cheewai_m6 Posted November 4, 2009 Share #8 Posted November 4, 2009 it's a bit disappointing for a camera worth so much money, to have fundamental flaws like that. it's not what you'd expect from germany/leica. i'm a bit disappointed hearing this and other problems. ho_co Posted November 4, 2009 Share #9 Posted November 4, 2009 Daniel-- Sorry to hear of the problem. Thanks for posting. Could you post an example image? Is it the same problem previously reported here of a kind of arrow- or barb-shaped horizontal bar across the center of the frame? (see http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/103320-what-heck-happened-here-image-artifact.html and http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/99322-m9-picture-glitch.html) A few of us had worried that that might be camera- instead of card-related. wookchang Posted November 4, 2009 Share #11 Posted November 4, 2009 Oh God! This is really bad. Worse than mine with column defects. I am still waiting for my replace unit after 4 weeks. I wish you only the best. Wook
Moritz Posted November 4, 2009 Share #12 Posted November 4, 2009 Hi Daniel, this looks horrible! Hopefully Leica will fix it as soon as possible. Best Regards Moritz
JQ Huang Posted November 4, 2009 Share #13 Posted November 4, 2009 how bad is Leica's quality control? i know these are random defects, which wouldn't be picked up even if Daniel tested the m9 in the store prior to purchase. M9 is a dream camera for so many pple. it'll be such a disaster if their camera has such fundamental problems. i wish Leica can be a littttle stricter with their QC. jaapv Posted November 4, 2009 Share #14 Posted November 4, 2009 This is clearly a sensor problem that can strike any camera at any time. It is quite possible that the camera was fine when it went through QC. Actually, I guess the sensors get checked at least three times: once leaving Kodak, once coming in at Leica, once at final chekout.
eleskin Posted November 4, 2009 Share #15 Posted November 4, 2009 This is why I am waiting until next year well into the production run. I waited 6 months for the m8 and I have had zero problems. I hope your m9 gets fixed soon. I would suggest to others to wait a few months to buy the m9. Next year there should be more cameras in stock and issues like this should be rare. My hope is that. When I do buy real silver chrome will be an option.
guidomo Posted November 4, 2009 Share #16 Posted November 4, 2009 This is clearly a sensor problem What makes you say that? Just wondering.

When I do buy real silver chrome will be an option. I bought one of the first M8's and have never had any problems with it. If you wait a year you still might get a defective one. Yes it sucks BUT not to be unexpected. Humans are not perfect, neither are our machines. Even space shuttles blow up now and then.
jaapv Posted November 4, 2009 Share #18 Posted November 4, 2009 What makes you say that? Just wondering. It looks a lot like the effect a dying D2 sensor produces.

Yes it sucks BUT not to be unexpected. Humans are not perfect, neither are our machines. Even space shuttles blow up now and then. Yes, but it is surprising that this left the factory... I have had that happen a few times with products from Leica - had a Noctilux that went three (long) times before it was fixed. ---------------- Frans
danielt Posted November 4, 2009 Author Share #20 Posted November 4, 2009 HI Frans: The camera works well for a month and 2300 pictures: after that the problems began.
