Telyt2003 Posted July 1, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please be forgiving: These are my first trials with a 'new' very long lens, I am slowly evolving into the focal range past 500 mm (approx. 800 mm equivalent focal length with M8) Seals in a zoo ... first image (common seal), distance around 10 meters, ISO 640, 1/500 s, f/8 (fully opened) ... Welcome, dear visitor! ISO 640, 1/500 s, f/8 (fully opened). Both images were taken with Visoflex 2 (with finder of Visoflex 3) and M8. Stabilized with a Monostat monopod (with ballhead and Pistock-C). The Noflexar 600/8 lens head was coupled to an unaltered Novoflex PIGRIF/PIFAS system C which was R-adapted (Novoflex) and then M-adapted (via Leitz 22228). I wanted to preserve both the capacity of this system C to focus to infinity and the (extendible) close focus range (via the built-in 8 cm extension tube), even when used with the Visoflex and M. Normally the PIGRIF-C is altered non-reversibly (physically cut shorter) to adapt it to the Visoflex. Finally, I opted against this 'solution'. Instead, I reversibly shorten the lens (the Noflexar 600/8) by around 2-3 centimeters to an actual 570-580 mm lens. Thereby I can focus it with the Novoflex system C and Visoflex-M from infinity down to around 4 meters. Thanks for looking! Please tell me your experiences with using the Novoflex system C (or D). I would also be interested in system B. Anybody using Leitz/Leica lens heads adapted to these Novoflex Pigrifs? Telyt2003 PS: Stuart, is it this (sort of spacing) what you want me to do? (I was very reluctant to change my settings/editor, because for a long while I was unable to post, and now that it finally works since a month, I was hesitant to 'change the working provisional arrangement'). k_g_wolf ✝ Posted July 1, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2011 That´s unfair, I was expecting the SINGER ... But nevertheless, fine photos, fine seals. Excellent results for a rangefinder/ viso- camera. best GEORG

Telyt2003 Posted July 15, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted July 15, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) (...)Both images were taken with Visoflex 2 (with finder of Visoflex 3) and M8. (...) The Noflexar 600/8 lens head was coupled to an unaltered Novoflex PIGRIF/PIFAS system C which was R-adapted (Novoflex) and then M-adapted (via Leitz 22228). Thereby I can focus it with the Novoflex system C and Visoflex-M from infinity down to around 4 meters. (...) More detailed information on reversible quick adaptations of the Noflexar 600/8 (and the Telyt 560/6,8) with the Novoflex PIGRIF system C to the Visoflex2/3, you may find here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/190378-oh-boy-real-visa.html#post1770291 (posts 9, 12, and links therein) For sure, all this isn't (easily) possible with (most of) the 400 mm heads. The Noflexar T 400/5,6 lens head cannot be further shortened, the Telyt 400/6,8 isn't easy to adapt anyway (and for the Noflexar (no T) 400/5,6, I don't know). However, personally, I do not often miss the 400 mm focal length with the Novoflex PIGRIF system C, because the latter is so heavy and big that I normally only consider it for focal lengths which can no longer be stabilized with a shoulder support alone, e.g. from around 600 mm onwards (800 mm equivalent with the M8; 840 mm / equiv.1100 mm with the 1,4x Apo-Extender-R). On the contrary, for these very long focal lengths, I by now see the advantages of the Novoflex system when used with a monopod. Who nonetheless wants to profit from the possibility to additionally put one of the (relatively small!) 400 mm lens heads on the Novoflex system C, simply may not consider the Visoflex2/3 - or please let me know how you managed with it . Best regards, Telyt2003 PS: After the adaptation to the Visoflex2/3 the shortened Noflexar 600/8 again is a full 600 mm lens, because the Novoflex to R- and R to M-adapters that I use (instead of the VISA), and the additional depth of the Visoflex as compared to the R, add to the overall length of the system. Telyt2003 Posted July 23, 2011 Author Share #8 Posted July 23, 2011 (...) ISO 640, 1/500 s, f/8 (fully opened) ...(...) The Noflexar 600/8 lens head was coupled to an unaltered Novoflex PIGRIF/PIFAS system C (...) Correction to my opening post: The photos were not shot at "f/8", albeit I noted that in my documentation, but I missed to do the "translation": With the Noflexar 600/8 lens head, I used the 'f/8'-position on the PIFAS-C (diaphragm) unit. But for sure, the f-stops on the PIFAS-C are given for the 400 mm lens heads, and therefore need to be recalculated for the 600 (or other) lens heads. Thus, at the 'f/8'-position of the PIFAS-C, the iris opening is 50 mm in diameter. The 600 mm lens head, at the 'f/8'-position of the PIFAS-C, therefore should have an effective aperture of f/12 (600 mm divided by 50 mm = 12 times the focal length). For sure, the lens was not "fully opened", but stopped down by one step to the 'f/8'-position (the PIFAS-C unit starts with the 'f/5,6'-position as given for 400 mm lens heads). Fully opened, the aperture of the 600/8 on the PIFAS/PIGRIFF-C should be an effective f/8,4. Are you confused? I was! Sorry, hope this time it is correct .
