Q&A with Stefan Daniel from 2010 LHSA Meeting in Wetzlar Mirrorless cameras future directions and the Leica R-System David This is precisely why co-development with another firm such as Panasonic or Canon or Nikon or Sony makes the most sense. earleygallery Posted September 13, 2012 Share #3 Posted September 13, 2012 I wonder if David is dropping a subtle hint ahead of Photokina, bearing in mind he may be under some NDA with Leica......
k-hawinkler Posted September 13, 2012 Share #4 Posted September 13, 2012 It seems to me David is not the only one.

psquared Posted September 13, 2012 Share #6 Posted September 13, 2012 Seems David is hinting that M10 will be the R solution. I wonder if a hybrid viewfinder (optical rangefinder for M lenses and EVF for adapted lenses) and an electromechanical R-to-M adapter to enable autodiaphragm are too much to wish for this time around. lct Posted September 13, 2012 Share #7 Posted September 13, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) More probably a classical OVF and an accessory EVF like the existing Electronic Viso-Flex Viewfinder.
sdai Posted September 13, 2012 Share #8 Posted September 13, 2012 Stefan Daniel's argument is actually very weak ... and doesn't sound very logical. How much money have they spent in developing the S system? Did they know how many people will invest in the S system before it starting shipping to the dealers worldwide? Have they recouped the R/D cost on the S system today? Most likely I will buy the R solution as soon as my dealer is taking deposit but honestly whether it exists or not doesn't matter anymore because there are just so many ways to use my R lenses and I've done it for 5 years (at least) already. I suspect there will be many people buying this camera for the sole purpose of using R lenses. Keep in mind it is built for M lenses in the first place. But, I applaud their efforts and commitment to the R users (to some degree). They deserve the credit when credit is due. Thank you!
jaapv Posted September 13, 2012 Share #9 Posted September 13, 2012 Yes - Mr Daniel gave a (conservative) estimate of the market for the S system to a group of LUF members quite some time ago - it was obvious that Leica did thorough market research before embarking on the venture. And given that the system is selling above expectations, it appears a logical conclusion that the development costs have been recouped As for the M10 being a R solution, I would need to see through the EVF first - but I am not holding my breath as the X2 sports the Olympus EV2, which I would not entrust my long R lenses to. marknorton Posted September 14, 2012 Share #10 Posted September 14, 2012 I liked that interview - Stefan Daniel was being refreshingly candid about choices and constraints. I do hope they make a sapphire screen available on the new camera from the get-go.
lct Posted September 14, 2012 Share #11 Posted September 14, 2012 ...the X2 sports the Olympus EV2, which I would not entrust my long R lenses to. Why so? Too low refreshing rate?
jaapv Posted September 14, 2012 Share #12 Posted September 14, 2012 I have one on an Olympus and I find it too small and low IQ to expect reliable focussing on a long lens. I will be -in the future- waiting for a more advanced EVF. Sony has pointed the way.
gidion27 Posted September 15, 2012 Share #13 Posted September 15, 2012 The R10 solution got me exited a few years ago. I however lost interest. I went back shooting film with my R8 and gave up on Leica. (was really disappionted when they pulled the plug on the R series.) Strange thing is that I am more exited about the new Sony RX1. Leica will need to step up to regain the interest of the old R series users. I found a great balance shooting film with my R8 and having a smaller digital solution like a X1 on the side.
