Stan Raucher Posted April 24, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone used Leicagoodies SPINS for pinhole photography with an M8? If yes, how were your results? Is Leicagoodies up and running again? Thanks, Stan

DaCh Posted April 24, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 24, 2007 Stan You are supposed to make your own pinholes. Buying ready made ones is cheating but I won’t tell. I have two which I have used on my M6 for years. I have tried them on the M8 and they work fine. One is a 0.2mm pinhole mounted on a body cap this gives a 28mm equivalent field of view and an aperture of f 150. The other is a 0.3mm pinhole mounted on a body cap with an extension to make it equivalent to a 50mm lens, the aperture of this is f 170. You will obviously need a tripod and also a hand held meter, forget trying to use TTL! The M8 is great because you don’t have to worry about reciprocity. Exposures are long but the M8’s digital noise suppression works very well and the images retain a nice natural look. I really enjoy pinhole photography and it can produce some wonderful images, a world away from the super sharpness that we normally demand. I am away for a couple of weeks but when I get home I will post some images and details if anyone is interested. Oh, and Sunday in Worldwide Pinhole Day. Check out Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day - home Enjoy David

mmk60 Posted November 28, 2008 Share #8 Posted November 28, 2008 I have a question for those who own SPINS. I received a 21mm SPINS from Leicagoodies and tried it on my M8. For some reason, it does not rotate completely and click... I tried to rotate it hard but then was afraid of breaking those fingers.. Any secret to fit it on M8? Thanks in advance. mashu
bhomatude Posted June 16, 2009 Share #9 Posted June 16, 2009 I just purchased a Skink Pinhole Pancake off of ebay to try out with the M8. It allows either a 24 or 35mm focal length. I'll be using it with an f46 zone plate. I love the look of this with the M series. http://farm1.static.flickr.com/35/101527056_b0e8453c4a_o.jpg

doubice Posted June 17, 2009 Share #12 Posted June 17, 2009 Very nicely made... Interesting camera. Do you know what kind it is? cheers The interesing camera is a Russian Leningrad. It is relatively rare and has a built-in spring-wound motor drive. Uses Leica Thread lenses and is probably one of the most robustly built Russian LTM cameras. So - the pinhole attachment just needs and LTM to M mount adapter and it can be used on any M mount camera. Best, Jan

bhomatude Posted June 17, 2009 Share #17 Posted June 17, 2009 There must be a rising demand as there will soon be another option: Leica-28mm Pinhole/Zone Plate Selector on Flickr - Photo Sharing! I prefer the look of the Skink, not to mention what appears to be incredible craftsmanship. However the turret on the Pinzonie is pretty cool. Here is a link to the Skink maker's (I believe) flickr set list. Several examples and better shots of the skink: http://www.flickr.com/photos/lochkamera/sets/
bhomatude Posted July 9, 2009 Share #18 Posted July 9, 2009 I received the Skink pinhole/zone plate adapter with a 24mm f46 zone plate. Here are a couple of first test shots. Sensor dust will be a problem. It was terrible, but I did have to do a couple of minutes worth of digital dusting in photoshop. I also noticed for the very first time, a vertical line on the sensor (1st image) when shooting at iso 1250 ( I usually don't shoot above 640) Hmm. I'll do some more testing at the higher iso's (with a lens!) and see if its still there. If so, I guess the camera goes to NJ. Nevertheless, I'm excited to experiment with some more zone plate work. The Skink is of exceptional quality. Its also a snug fit with the included M adapter (can't get it to actually 'click' into place). http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3428/3704830989_b01fc8e816_b.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2548/3705637622_658851c488_b.jpg update: yes the vertical line is there - but only at 1250 iso and above. and links should work now.
