Luakbay Posted August 11, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have previously written on another thread; Leica Camera won't turn on. I just received my came back from Germany via Singapore as I live in Shanghai. I sent my camera back to Leica dealer in Singapore as I cannot turn on my camera. I barely use it for few times as I was quite busy. All QC checked cannot find any problem but gave me a new battery. Last week it came back to me. Today I took some photos in the morning and afternoon, and again the camera is dead again. I read some other threads that the camera will lock up itself after taking some shots. I am not sure it's the same issue that it won't turn on. When I received back the camera, I immediately try on my old batteries, and both worked well. I really don't get it, is this how we should struggle with such a bad quality Leica carries? I am not sure is it because bad design or what? Clearly it is not the quality we paid for! Or any other people experience the same? Kong

Hookeye Posted August 11, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 11, 2013 Something ia clearly wrong. But can you please describe your problem in more detail? When your camera 'dies' - you say it won't come back even if you use the on-off switch. But will it come back on if you take out the battery, wait a few seconds, put it back in and then turn the switch to 'on' ?

The camera will on turn back on after switch on, and I turn off and on again for few times, nothing moves. Then I took both the SD card and battery out, re-insert again, and switch on and nothing moves. I have 3 batteries; even I used the battery they gave me after the repair, nothing happens. I am charging the new battery, and see how it goes.
BrendanD Posted August 11, 2013 Share #4 Posted August 11, 2013 Try a different SD card? Sometimes these lock ups are due to card issues. Leica test the camera, no problems, you get it back, put the card back in and it locks.....
Hookeye Posted August 11, 2013 Share #5 Posted August 11, 2013 This seems to be different to the occasional freeze up that some users have been reporting. By all means, try to recharge a battery and see if it helps. But I doubt it is a battery or charger problem you have, since none of your three batteries work. It is highly unlikely to have three batteries that go flat without warning and at the same moment. If the problem persists, I suggest you take contact with Leica Customer Service directly. Maybe they can arrange for you to send it back to them via courier (e.g. DHL or FedEx). Sending it via Singapore would just be wasting a lot of time. Semiconductors ( transistors, diodes, microchips) can sometimes have hidden faults that suddenly appear, or even come and go. This cannot possibly be picked up by quality control when shipping out the camera. Maybe you have just been extremely unlucky

So, is it firmware issue or SD card issue? Either way, mentally exhausted! Thanks for your kind advice. Kong
250swb Posted August 11, 2013 Share #7 Posted August 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) You should make sure you do all the normal things. Make sure the main battery has been in the camera for 60 hours to charge the internal battery. Make sure your SD card is a genuine card, not a fake, and that you have formatted it in the camera. If it still stops working try another SD card (and format it in the camera). Steve

But I live in Shanghai meaning they cannot ship out from here because it was not imported and Custom Duty not paid...long story short, it was sent back twice; one for the eyelets, another with dead camera. I begin to think I am getting the bad lemon!
Hookeye Posted August 11, 2013 Share #9 Posted August 11, 2013 Sorry to hear that. I really hope your worries are over for now. The card problem could be a firmware issue as you suggest, but it couls also be a semiconductor malfunction e.g. in that particular card. It may also be that your SD card has some corrupt files and simply needs reformatting. I wish you good luck now, after all your troubles!
insomnia Posted August 11, 2013 Share #10 Posted August 11, 2013 It is unbelievable they don't get it together with the SD cards. Nowhere else you hear about problems in that frequency.

All these while, I am thinking about the Hardware and have no knowledge software could deceive the camera! I had an experience with problem software stalled a Benz (not mine). All my gear; SD card, etc are genuine; one will think pay for something expensive, and not worth using non genuine elements to jeopardise the camera. Cheers! Luakbay Posted August 11, 2013 Author Share #13 Posted August 11, 2013 So was it the battery or the SD card? Battery no issue for sure; either firmware, or SD card or Camera itself!
StephenPatterson Posted August 11, 2013 Share #14 Posted August 11, 2013 I only buy my SD cards in Hong Kong as I do not trust taobao or local suppliers. There are so many fake SD cards in mainland China that look perfect, but will cause problems with your M240. I'm near Chongqing, and if you have any problems or questions you can send me a PM and I will be happy to help.

algrove Posted August 11, 2013 Share #16 Posted August 11, 2013 Luakbay- I had a defective battery which caused some problems. It charged I thought OK, but I discovered it was not charging correctly=too short a time. Leica replaced it and no battery issues since then. When I get a new battery now I charge it way past recommended time and then use it for say 100 shots. Then I recharge it again to see when the charge lights appear. The other post about 60 hours to charge the internal battery has merit. Is your charger working properly? I do get lockup when using the EVF on lenses requiring the EVF for correct framing. I hope it is not he Olympus EVF that causes the problem. Happened just today with the 24/1.4 while shooting many shots in rapid succession and had to remove and reinsert battery to unblock it. Pain in the a__!
lct Posted August 11, 2013 Share #17 Posted August 11, 2013 Same advice as usual from me: if you have a doubt about your card, format it with SDFormatter. Once is enough generally.
