Advertisement Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Hi Chroma project, Take a look here Capture 1 the new and great.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
chuckw Posted December 2, 2010 Share #2 Posted December 2, 2010 How long ago was it that Capture One 5 came out? Phase One seems to be on an insanely frequent path of "major" upgrades that require ever more money! I like Capture One but Phase One's upgrade frequency may be all of the push that I need to switch to Lightroom full time.
markrune Posted December 2, 2010 Share #3 Posted December 2, 2010 Not sure but it is only a ma tter of weeks since I paid for an upgrade to version
wparsonsgisnet Posted December 2, 2010 Share #4 Posted December 2, 2010 I threw my money at it -- and I'm in a 2-hour download process......... ................ .................................... Photography is so much fun.
Overgaard Posted December 2, 2010 Share #5 Posted December 2, 2010 I stopped using it a while ago, but if the version 6 handles workflow properly I will consider upgrading. Got an offer to use code GDK2011 at Medium Format Camera Systems and Raw Converter Software which gives a 15% discount. So feel free to use that, it's not a secret or exclusive code. markrune Posted December 2, 2010 Share #6 Posted December 2, 2010 Placed a support call to say I was not happy as I only upgraded 6 weeks ago to 5.2 and there response was basically tough. so thats a customer they have lost in future. Even adobe and Microsoft give users who have purchase upgrades etc free upgrades - this is not acceptable behaviour
Jamie Roberts Posted December 2, 2010 Share #7 Posted December 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) UPDATE: my 5-upgrade pack licence still works for C1 v6 Hurray! I agree that people who just bought V5 should also get a license.... Looks interesting though--64 bit support, and (at last) layered adjustments

ho_co Posted December 2, 2010 Share #9 Posted December 2, 2010 What's interesting to me is that many of the new C1 "WOW" features listed are already part of RightLoom and ShotoPhop.
Jamie Roberts Posted December 2, 2010 Share #10 Posted December 2, 2010 What's interesting to me is that many of the new C1 "WOW" features listed are already part of RightLoom and ShotoPhop. Well, yeah, too bad the colour from Lightroom sucks and in PS you're not working in RAW Otherwise, it's exactly the same...
ho_co Posted December 2, 2010 Share #11 Posted December 2, 2010 Well, yeah, Jamie, that's recognized. But that's not a new "WOW" feature. I'm enjoying watching Michael Reichmann's two-step in regard to the product.
Double Negative Posted December 2, 2010 Share #12 Posted December 2, 2010 Reposted from a dupe thread, FWIW: Looks to be a decent upgrade, though nothing "must have" IMO. The new features: Major: - Local adjustments edit selected areas of images non-destructively; - Black and white conversion -- precisely adjust color channels to create split toning effects when converting to grayscale; - Keystone correction -- reduces or eliminates perspective distortion while maintaining dimension integrity; - High-quality, simple to use printing options. Minor: - Enhanced metadata support including XMP sync, Auto Load and a GPS link to Google Maps; - A Loupe tool, which is a powerful magnifier to zoom into an image from 25 to 200 percent; - Integrated movie import, viewing and handling; - Search and filter that makes it easy to find, sort and organize images on the fly; - Advanced, token-based file naming; - Native 64-bit operation and OpenCL/GPU acceleration for substantially improved performance
Rick Posted December 2, 2010 Share #13 Posted December 2, 2010 Well, yeah, too bad the colour from Lightroom sucks and in PS you're not working in RAW Otherwise, it's exactly the same... Sucks? Kind of limits how seriously you can be taken, Jamie. For those of you who don't have LR; the color doesn't "suck", it is just fine.
XK50 Posted December 3, 2010 Share #14 Posted December 3, 2010 I got Capture One 5, fairly early, last March and have had around three or four free updates since then. It improved with every update and, frankly, I've been impressed with it - but then, for my type of amateur work, I'm not a great lover of - and don't need - database-centric software (iTunes and LR) Capture One does give different colours to LR, and I've likened it to Agfachrome, compared with Ektachrome. This might be no more than a "European" colour temperature assumption. Whatever, I like it. Whilst an initial - and brief - side by side comparison (5.2.1 v 6.0) shows no apparent difference in image quality, the new version features, for the first time, a neat "Print" function that looks to deliver "borderless" with ease. Apart from the feaures already mentioned elsewhere, this alone might be sufficent to justify the upgrade price. I got a free copy of LR2, and then 3, off Leica, and can see there's been a game of leapfrog going on, all year. I know nothing but, having spent my money, there's sure to be a new LR out, real soon now! Best wishes, John

dhsimmonds Posted December 3, 2010 Share #16 Posted December 3, 2010 I am a firm supporter of Capture One Pro and the new upgrade from C1.5 to C1.6 is a major move up for Phase One products in my view. I like the Keystone adjustments, also B & W conversion tool and localised adjustments but for me the ability to browse and even slideshow my RAW files quickly is a huge plus and worth every penny of the 85 euros upgrade from 5 Pro. DLux5 files are supported as well as most other Leica Raw files but not the D2 or Pana LC1 unfortunately.

Luke_Miller Posted December 3, 2010 Share #18 Posted December 3, 2010 I am a firm supporter of Capture One Pro and the new upgrade from C1.5 to C1.6 is a major move up for Phase One products in my view. I agree. The reason I use Lightroom 3 as my primary post-processing application is due to its ability to do selective adjustments, correct perspective distortion, and its noise reduction. I have always preferred C1's colors, especially skin tones. C1's lack of selective adjustments was a deal breaker for an available light shooter who often experiences color shifts due to mixed lighting. Capture One 6 is a significant improvement in my use. I'm playing with the trial version and noise reduction now appears to rival that of Lightroom 3. The selective adjustments are a bit limited, but so were Lightroom's when first introduced. I expect later updates will expand the capability. Perspective distortion is easier than that of Lightroom, but lens correction is not available. Both 32 and 64 bit versions are available. So far I'm impressed.
erl Posted December 4, 2010 Share #19 Posted December 4, 2010 Loaded just fine, with the kindly offered 'code' from overgaardcom. Save a few euros. Thanks. I am impressed enough that I dropped my payment on their table after 24hrs assessment. Regarding the few comments above about the colour of C1 V's LR. I think it has be acknowledged that it can only be a subjective argument and each practitioner has their own preference, however expressed. All must be taken as personal, and therefore valid comment. My preference is for C1/M9 colour, which I find superior to LR for my taste. It does depend on more than the RAW processor. I use JR's M8 profiles, even with my M9. That is what I prefer. YMMV and is also valid.
Overgaard Posted December 4, 2010 Share #20 Posted December 4, 2010 Could someone post a comparison sample of C1 and LR colors? And what do you do about sharpening in C1?
