ptomsu Posted August 19, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Folks, I just talked to the Leica shop in Vienna https://www.leicashop.com/index.php?lang=en They invited me to an event in their shop in Vienna on 9th September at 3PM but did not mention any details. Asking what would be the great news, they just told me that they needed to kill me if I knew from them Asking about M9 they of course gave the same answer ..... So obviously something is boiling - maybe "just" the intro of the S System, or maybe also a new M9 ???? Anybody any other hints?

johnwolf Posted August 19, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 19, 2009 I know Leica has said they are not pursuing 4/3 at this time, but I still hope to see one. Kind of a next-generation D2. Panasonic is rumored to be releasing their EP-1 competitor on 9/1. Wouldn't it be reasonable to see a Leica branded version and a couple new lenses shortly thereafter? I miss my D2. earleygallery Posted August 19, 2009 Share #4 Posted August 19, 2009 Did you refer them to the Leica dealer who has already listed the M9 on their website?

adan Posted August 19, 2009 Share #8 Posted August 19, 2009 James: I emailed my Leica reps about that French site's ad. I suspect Leica told them to take it down until the announcement if they wanted to get any from the first shipment. Leica plays hardball these days on NDAs (which automatically include all dealers). As Peter found out: "I could tell you, but than I'd have to kill you." 8^) Yes, Peter, the 09/09/09 date has been bounced around here for 2-3 weeks. Leica would neither confirm nor deny, so the date is probably real - but the content is totally speculation. [edit: hmmm, Vienna is GMT +1 or +2? I guess that is 6 or 7 am here in Denver.]
pascal_meheut Posted August 19, 2009 Share #9 Posted August 19, 2009 Peter, lot of threads in the M8 forum about this. The 9/9/2009 has been announced some weeks ago already. Chasseur d'Images said there will be a new FF M announced then for instance.
Lothar, Is my primitive schoolboy german interpretation of this correct? Photokina 2010 will reveal the R10! If so, then lots of us may be very happy bunnies. J Mitchum Posted August 19, 2009 Share #12 Posted August 19, 2009 Peter, lot of threads in the M8 forum about this. The 9/9/2009 has been announced some weeks ago already. Chasseur d'Images said there will be a new FF M announced then for instance. Leica didn't announce a date. A certain someone on this forum made that date up. People didn't know this and thought it was fact and it spread like wildfire. There's nothing stopping Leica from using that date for an M9 announcement but there's nothing official yet. rick_dykstra Posted August 20, 2009 Share #14 Posted August 20, 2009 ich tippe auf Ankündigung M9: Der Lebenszyklus M8 ist alles andere als am Anfang, etc which according to babelfish means I type M9 on announcement: The life cycle M8 is everything but at the beginning, it leans m.E the end too. 8.2 a genuine progress was not real. Only: If like that is, then the commercial introduction can wait not up to the Photokina, which must go faster, at the latest in January 2010 must the M9 be available. Otherwise the sale M8 breaks to for a long time away. A further reason for my acceptance: When I was months ago in Solms, I asked in factory outlet whether one could guess/advise me now against the background a wahrswcheinlichen M9 still to the purchase of a second M8 Bodys. One does not have kindly on the purchase 2. - Body M8 compact, which let look deeply…. The Photokina 2010 would have to then be located completely in the indication of a digital R10.
ho_co Posted August 20, 2009 Share #16 Posted August 20, 2009 ... according to babelfish ... It's good, straightforward, textbook German. Even I can read it! It never ceases to amaze me how bad automatic translations can be. Of course, it never ceases to amaze me either how good they can be. My attempt would be: I’m betting on announcement of the M9. Lifecycle of the M8 is anything but at its beginning, but rather heading to the end. 8.2 wasn’t really a true advance. However, if that’s the case, then the commercial introduction can’t wait till photokina. It has to be quicker than that; the M9 must be deliverable in January next year at the latest. The M8 can’t keep up sales that long. Another reason for my assumption: When I was in Solms some months back, I asked in the factory outlet whether, considering the probability of an M9, they would advise that I buy a second M8. They were very friendly, and didn’t push me to purchase the M8. That fact invites a deeper view... photokina 2010 would then stand fully under the sign of a digital R10. ptomsu Posted August 20, 2009 Author Share #18 Posted August 20, 2009 I actually do hope for an M9 announcement! M9 with FF and no longer IR filters necessary. MP I do not care as much but I assume around 20MP.
albertknappmd Posted August 23, 2009 Share #19 Posted August 23, 2009 if... and I repeat, if... 09/09/09 leads to the M9... then by logical analysis... 10/10/10 should be R10 day! I am very sceptical about the whole matter but on a slow news day, who cares if we just dream a bit about these two new cameras to be....
