18 mm on DL4

Hello, Yes it works fine but you have to unscrew a thread cover from the base of the lens mount on the D-4, also useful is that with the adapter in place and the 18mm lens removed you can use filters such as a poleriser etc, down side is that I never use my leather leica case anymore but a Lowepro. I just seem to have miniturised my DSLR gadget bag and still take too much out but now its smaller.

Before buying hardware, you should test software first. I mean the software Autopano. Relatively cheap and very interesting.

My first example is of the spanielshow (rare breeds) yesterday in Eschwege (Germany). It consits of (only) 2 pictures at 24 mm.

Clearly the 18 mm lens will physically attach to the DL4 but how does the DL4 know to apply correction for the 18 mm's additional barrel distortion if it can't be set through the software?

As the lx3 has a special menu choice for the wide angle lens panasonic offers

attaching it to the Dlux 4 may mean you will need to do post processing in PHOTOSHOP or other such program .

I have heard the lens itself is of good quality and the only way to do the same thing on the D2 to obtain extra wide angle was the Panasonic wide angle lens option in 2004. That worked well but I think in this case Panasonic wouldnt add a seperate option for the wide angle lens in there menu system if it were not needed?

My understanding from people who use the LX-3 is that the camera's "accessory lens" setting doesn't do anything to fix the image. Apparently it does only the things listed in the manual: a) locks the camera at wide angle, B) disables the flash, and c) writes the reduced equivalent focal length to EXIF.

The DMW-LW46 works fine on the D-Lux 4 but adds barrel distortion and chromatic aberration that need to be removed in post-processing.

Ron--

Don't know about 52mm version. I used the Lumix. We know the Panasonic adapter tube and WA converter are matched to the camera. A 52>49 stepdown ring would work, but would likely throw a millimeter or two into the mix. That would probably be okay, but not optimal.

BTW, the auto-bracketing is "hidden" in a "logical" place. You can't find it without the manual, and you'll never find it in the manual. (It's given a tiny part of p. 38.)

Use the +/- (up arrow) button.

first push > exposure compensation

next push > auto-bracket (press "display" to set multi-aspect)

next push > flash exposure control

next push > exit

My recommendation is to download an LX-3 manual for easier use. I think I got it from Panasonic UK, but I don't have the URL at the moment.
