pgk Posted May 26, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 26, 2016 Interesting. I heard that it was suggested that this might be possible from an interesting source and I wondered whether Leica will introduce such adapters or leave them to manufacturers like Novoflex? The question now is whether it will also work on the T which I assume that it must?
jaapv Posted May 26, 2016 Share #3 Posted May 26, 2016 Novoflex cannot have made this without the connivance of Leica. They are hitting back for all those R lenses on 5D-s I wonder whether this will pull a few 1D users in.
tthorne Posted May 26, 2016 Share #4 Posted May 26, 2016 I need this now for my TSE lenses. Where do I buy in the US?
chris_tribble Posted May 26, 2016 Share #5 Posted May 26, 2016 Interesting indeed. Up until now I've held on to my 5D 2 solely for use with long L series lenses. I do everything else with my M240s. I could now seriously consider a Leica only body system with a mix of Leica and Canon lenses. Current plan had been to replace my two Ms with whatever the next iteration was going to be. Now I can easily imagine holding on to the Ms for another cycle as I have no complaints about the rf or sensor - it's only the poor EVF that limits the camera - and investing in a single SL + the M and EOS to SL adapters. scott kirkpatrick Posted May 26, 2016 Share #6 Posted May 26, 2016 I wondered if Leica would be willing to share details of their SL/T interface with appropriate partners, and now we know. And this confirms that full function from S lenses should be available when Leica's S to SL adapter finally ships. Unfortunately for R lens users, even though the SL firmware is probably smart enough to direct aperture stop-down and to use the knowledge of the lens aperture, we still don't know if a mechanical stop-down interface is affordable, or if the aperture information is actually expressed in a ROM-equipped R lens so that it could be used. scott
jaapv Posted May 26, 2016 Share #7 Posted May 26, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) They licensed the six-bit coding to Novoflex before.
Leicaiste Posted May 26, 2016 Share #8 Posted May 26, 2016 It seems the adapter will not give access to the IS build in many Canon lenses. Again it is a shame the SL has no IBIS.
Leicaiste Posted May 26, 2016 Share #9 Posted May 26, 2016 Unfortunately for R lens users, even though the SL firmware is probably smart enough to direct aperture stop-down and to use the knowledge of the lens aperture, we still don't know if a mechanical stop-down interface is affordable, or if the aperture information is actually expressed in a ROM-equipped R lens so that it could be used. scott The R8/R9 knew about the aperture in use on their lenses via a mechanical link, the same used for stop down. They didn't need the ROM for that. The ROM, if used on the SL via the future R adapter, will only activate automatically the information already available in the R lenses list inside the SL. Exactly like the six bit from the L lenses are doing via the M adapter. This will be already an improvement IMO. Obviously I would like the adapter to also read the real aperture via the lever, and even better to stop it down automatically. But I would be very surprised if it happens. And very pleased. fcomarin69 Posted May 26, 2016 Share #10 Posted May 26, 2016 Good news for my TS lenses. Bad news is here in Singapore the Novoflex official distributors don't have the most minimum idea this was already launch and worst, you can't order from Novoflex directly. I guess I need to wait for a nice friend in Europe or US to be around there traveling or coming here so I can ask them to bring it.

dkCambridgeshire Posted May 26, 2016 Share #12 Posted May 26, 2016 Need it for my 65 M PE and 24 T&S. There's a s/h SL which has sat on a London dealer's shelf for 2 weeks - it'll likely be gone soon to a Canon owner dunk

Ivar B Posted May 26, 2016 Share #15 Posted May 26, 2016 This is really interesting. I did not find any information on the web of Novoflex as of now, but I believe it was said that 30 lenses or so would be compatible. Has anyone seen this list? Probably almost everything is in, but I would primarily be interested in one of Canons tele lenses or tele-zooms. I believe they are very good optically and one could perhaps save some money compared to the 90-280 or other SL lenses to come.
AlanJW Posted May 26, 2016 Share #16 Posted May 26, 2016 This is good news for the Canon people. I am hopeful Novoflex can do something for we Nikon people. I have held on to my D800e and some lenses but I do prefer the SL.
