david strachan Posted April 18, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 18, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) There hasn't been any coffee stain complaints lately. Other defect is, only a recent post on a broken screen ( and its decoding). Can anyone report on Coffee stain and dates it has occurred on their M8 screens. Has the stain disappeared over time ? ? Other LCD defects? Your help appreciated. Thanks Dave S

lct Posted April 18, 2015 Share #3 Posted April 18, 2015 My silver M8.2 # 3556*** is from 2009 ad got the coffee stain in 2013. The latter became progressively smaller and more contrasty then disappeared in 2014. As curious as it may seem it is totally invisible now.

I haven't had any problems with the screens. cheers Dave S Please keep contributing if you've had a coffee stain or dead screen. Thank you.
HeinB Posted April 19, 2015 Share #6 Posted April 19, 2015 i bought my M8 #3104702 in 2008 used. Don't know when stain showed first, guess in 2012 or 2013. It's not constant in visibility, though in size and position it seems constant, occupying one third of image in vertical, and half in horizontal, and is centered. It doesn't show clearly most of the time. When checking today, could find it only in shots with even and light colours that are not too bright. Ideal background to show it seems light coloured walls indoors, or shots with lot of flare (greyish) outdoors. Agaist very bright sky, it curiously does not show. Not sure about variation over time, it certainly is 'so absent' most of the time that it doesnt bother me. BW Hein

lloyd.almeida Posted July 10, 2015 Share #10 Posted July 10, 2015 David its not possible to repair the LCD, the camera was sent to Germany and returned ..nothing is possible. I really don’t care for the screen in terms of reviewing images. Just wish the camera had an ISO dial :-) Am using it Film style but the only issue is changing ISO and Disabling Auto ISO. Guest Posted July 10, 2015 Share #11 Posted July 10, 2015 imo you get the best results if you allways shot with 160 iso and push the raw files when you develope them to the iso you need. works much better than changing the iso in the camera. lambda. lloyd.almeida Posted July 10, 2015 Share #12 Posted July 10, 2015 Hey Lamda Not so hung up on the ISO. In fact that’s exactly what I want to do .. Disable Auto ISO and set the ISO to 160(This has been done but the Auto ISO is kicking in at night )

Carlo Posted July 22, 2015 Share #14 Posted July 22, 2015 Hi Guys, I purchased a used M8.2 back in April form Camtec in Montreal, it was used with about 14K clicks but came with a 6month warranty and the price was right, they shipped it out to me and when I went to use it noticed that it had the dreaded coffee stain on the display, so I sent it back after all it was sold to me with a warranty, now having read all the posts regarding the staining I thought I was S.O.L it ended up going to New Jersey who in turn sent it to Germany, I just received an email from Camtec this afternoon and to my surprise, it has been repaired, yes new display so Leica must have some displays left I will post pics when I receive it later this week
david strachan Posted July 23, 2015 Author Share #15 Posted July 23, 2015 Thank you to all who have contributed. Carlo's experience is very interesting. But maybe only Camtec have some screens. Returns to Leica, Germany, have not shown any ability to replace screens...out of stock. Perhaps other Leica repairers have screens hiding in their store rooms?? My "feeling" is the screens may get the "coffee stain" perhaps due to slight internal delamination if the screen gets too hot...say sitting in the sun. I make sure my M8's never get hot, and always orient the screen to be in the shade. Maybe also if the camera gets too cold; any thermal shock?? In any case all the affected screens seem to fade the stain with time. Seems more the worry if the screen becomes completely non-operative, as some have reported. At the moment both my cameras are in excellent order, and remain entirely reliable...fingers crossed. All the best to those who still use the M8. cheers Dave S
