X Vario Users....

Hi, Iv just had one for a few weeks. Its expensive, no doubt about it. I have used quite frequently and I think the image quality is very good.

What are you going to use it for? I main aim was to us this as travel camera as my Nikon Kit can get quite heavy at times. I still intend to bring my Nikon but the Vario would be a good alternative when I just want to go light on some days and with the FL it would cover most needs and therefore it gives me the option to always have a camera on me.. You know, you get some days where u want to bring a camera but just cant be bothered to lug that weight around. That was my thinking of getting one.

I don't havnt uploaded any pics so cant share but I am happy with the results so far.

I have mine since the introduction in June and have really no regrets...... I strongly suggest you get the handle for better stability, for speedier process a SDHC 95mb read or write card it makes a big difference. If like me you shoot DNG, only use the smallest JPG version 1.8mp that also speeds up the process. The colours are accurate with excellent sharpness....... I hope when they release a newer firmware that it will be possible to set the auto slowest speed to higher than 1/30 (auto ISO settings) i am still waiting for the lens hood to arrive.

I also work with a M9-P and a M Monochrom

I am very happy with my X Vario, like the quick access menu's and buttons for ISO and WB )))

Being able to set aperture, shutter and focus without having to turn on camera is great )))

Took a while too get used to using menu button to make selection instead of center of D-pad,

Do not miss the Nikon D600 at all.

Only function I miss from Nikon is the remote shutter release for use when on tripod.

I plan to use mine as a back up when traveling, and also for just carrying around. I always like to have a camera with me because when I don't, I end up regretting it.

Thanks!

What editing program are you using to open your DNGs from the X Vario?

Thanks!

I ended up really liking the X Vario and have taken in on a couple trips already, most recently to Prague where I shot it alongside the M 240. I grouped all the shots into one LR collection and the Vario shots hold up extremely well next to the ones from the M. In some cases, I prefer them to the ones I shot with the M because I was either able to get closer (min focus distance) or adjust the focal length to a non-standard setting for better framing.

In case you haven't seen it, I wrote a pretty extensive review of the X Vario:

As several correspondants above, I enjoy the X Vario a lot, mainly because I can have with me the focal lenses I use more often.:)

I use LR 5.0 (offert with the X Vario) as well as CaptureOne v.7.03 which has a X Vario generic profile.

I can add that I shoot DNG + JPG fine BW. This later is very good (my taste) out of the camera!

David Farkas' review was one of the best of its kind I have read. It was well balanced, insightful and illustrated with plenty of apposite photography. The good and the less good features of the camera were brought out with conviction and sympathy. Despite being a premier Leica dealer, he pulled no punches and seems to have an important line of communication to Solms and the people who matter. I have bookmarked his website and wish he was my local dealer.

Thanks, David. Actually your review was what started me thinking seriously about getting the X Vario. Jono's was the other one that was a deciding factor.

By the way, I ordered mine from Josh.

Yeh, that was my thinking as well.

I think its an excellent camera. Just need some getting used to. Not sure if you are buying from leica boutique as they offer a 1-1 session which I have yet to go for, so hopefully will learn some more stuff.

Hi, did you bring both out at the same time? or alternated between the 2, only bringing 1 camera out a time?

Thanks

On a few occasions when I wanted to travel light, I went out with just the X Vario. On days when I took the M240, I always had the Vario with me as well, either in the bag as a backup or on my other shoulder as an active second body. Worked out pretty well.
