Andykc Posted January 3, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) wow.. picked my one up today from Leica Store Mayfair UK... thanks Leo I have to say that it is a superb item in size and weight with perfect balance on my S2 with Grip...until now I have been using the great Hasselblad 55-110 with adaptor but with some issues regarding weight for general walkabout... this new Leica is certainly lighter and far easier to carry around all day. I particularly wanted this for travel as I will be visiting Australasia and the South Seas soon.. I have not used it yet on a serious shoot but will report back when I have. I would point out that the Hood is not that secure in place and could easily be lost when the unit is carried over your shoulder.. for now I cant wait to get serious...

Andykc Posted January 5, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted January 5, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can you explain the issue with the lens shade. Why is it unstable?Albert  Hi The Shade although a perfect fit does not lock in place firmly enough to stop a slight knock against your Body (when carried over the Shoulder) from causing it to unlock. The Large rectangular shape then aids its loss. I have used 2 narrow cuts of black Tape 1-1/2 " long stuck either side between Hood and Lens ring to secure it in place.
wlaidlaw Posted January 5, 2013 Share #8 Posted January 5, 2013 Andy, Could you please post a picture of the combo with a familiar object (matchbox or something similar) to give us an idea of scale. What is the approx total weight of the S2 and this lens? Some years ago I hired a Hassy H3D with the 55 to 110 mm lens for a special project of a travel article on Leeds and Bodiam Castles and Eltham Palace. The editor of the far eastern airline magazine, said he would only accept MFD images. I later sent the same editor a Winelands of South Africa article with M9 files, up-rezzed to 30MP and 6.5 x 4.5 cm, where I had deleted the camera info from the EXIF's and he never noticed any difference! After about an hour of use of the Hassy hand held, I had horrible backache and had to use a tripod for the rest of the 2 days. Thanks Wilson

Andykc Posted January 5, 2013 Author Share #11 Posted January 5, 2013 HI, It looks nice. But looking at the picture you have a billingham bag? Can you tell me the type and if the bags fits with a 120mm or 30/35mm attached? Thanks sorry it is not Billingham but a very old Canvas one I got from abroad..ideal for hot climes,, I use the Billingham 07 series 307 which is deep enough to keep this set up complete..I can also use it with the 120 and 30 attached. thanks
wlaidlaw Posted January 5, 2013 Share #12 Posted January 5, 2013 Hi Wilson Just a quick snap taken with iPhone showing credit card size next to Hope this helps will post more when I get home later Andy Andy, Many thanks. It does not look much different in size to the Contax RTS2 and RX with 28-85 Vario Sonnar, that I carried around for some years with no issues. I suspect it would be a fair bit heavier though, as there will be rather more glass in the lens and metal in the camera body. Wilson

Thanks Wilson I have attached some pictures...(D size battery) I too had problems with the Blad 55-110 but great photos...I am quite a large build 18st and at nearly 70 I have no difficulty with this combo in shoulder bag all day.. Ed Hi I have attached 5 photos jpg untouched with each F/L as marked on Barrel the day is a typical dull rainy British one by the Thames in Richmond Surrey. I have had to resize as required for posting so the quality will be very basic..but at least you can get an idea of results all at f8/180 and 30mm at f9.5/180 Andy Welcome, dear visitor! Alejandro AR Posted January 6, 2013 Share #17 Posted January 6, 2013 My shade seems to fit better on my 30-90. It makes a hearable "click" when it locks in and seems to hold tight enoughnto not have me worry. @Andykc: maybe you have an outlier?
Andykc Posted January 6, 2013 Author Share #18 Posted January 6, 2013 Hi yes my one 'clicks' but it still loosens if it gets a small knock.. I wonder why Leica hasn't yet design a locking system on S Lens Hoods given the price required to replace.. Andy

algrove Posted February 17, 2013 Share #20 Posted February 17, 2013 Lovely looking set-up. That looks like nearly the perfect MF lens. Have you heard if at 90 it has the sharpness of the Hasselblad CF 100/3.5? Have you asked Leica about this loose hood issue? Heck, my 70-200 Canon has a huge lens hood, but fits very snuggly. It has a push tab for removal which is a nice feature.
