jaapv Posted May 2, 2010 Share #2 Posted May 2, 2010 There is a trick that sometimes works. Put a lenscap on, expose for 30 or more seconds three times or more. Sometimes that will revive a dead pixel.

j_lir Posted May 3, 2010 Share #4 Posted May 3, 2010 I have one! It really only comes up when I have high ISO exposures, so only half the day! hahaha. I'm really not happy about this, I emailed Leica again yesterday whilst working on the computer for hours, I was really annoyed to find the blown neon green pixel and line on a bunch of great stage shots from Coachella Music Festival. annoying isnt the word. vdb Posted August 5, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted August 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, 2 months ago they remapped my sensor, worked fine until now....2 new column defects to back to Leica NJ today:mad: Really am curious what the prevalence is... bocaburger Posted August 5, 2010 Share #8 Posted August 5, 2010 The more I read of this issue (which so far hasn't happened to me) the more I can't help but think how it would be a win-win situation for Leica if they just put a remapping utility into a firmware update (for M9 and M8). The Epson RD1-S has it and it works like a charm, and Epson incorporated it into a firmware upgrade for the original RD1. You just go into a menu and push a button and dead/hot pixels are mapped out in a few seconds.

I was hoping to start this thread in order to get an idea of how many others are experiencing this...I suspect with time this will be a significant issue. jon_b Posted August 6, 2010 Share #11 Posted August 6, 2010 I sent my M9 to be repaired for this defect - just got it back today. Unfortunately, despite re-mapping sensor, the fault is still present. Interestingly, the column of pixels (blue in my case) are not always at the same vertical location in the photos, although they are all very near the centre horizontally. sjt1 Posted August 6, 2010 Share #12 Posted August 6, 2010 You might want to try Pixel Fixer: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/125329-dead-pixels-green-red-line-problem.html#post1326539 I have used this successfully on my M8, which has a few hot pixels with green lines. For the record, I have no affiliation with Pixel Fixer.
albireo_double Posted December 4, 2011 Share #13 Posted December 4, 2011 Just got the same problem on my new (ex-demo) S2! One row of pixels red, one green, some distance away. How can these fools in Solms let out such problems through QC?! How come dealer did not notice. Going back to dealer tomorrow, another 120 km to drive, really angry with Leica. MvMaltese Posted December 4, 2011 Share #14 Posted December 4, 2011 My M9 has been into Leica NJ 3 times now. All sharing new and wonderful dead pixels and vert. lines (with occasional black frame motor issues). Just got it back last week. Need to run it through all the tests here to see if it really went away.
Olsen Posted December 5, 2011 Share #15 Posted December 5, 2011 Absolutely all the M8s I knew of had been to Solms for fixing of this problem. It was a problem that occurred about 12 months after launch, back in 2007. - My impression was that all the M8s that went to Solms were fixed. For ever. Consequently, I waited a little longer before buying my M9. I must say that I am very disappointed that this 'Red Line' problem now pops up again. - Even on the 20.000 $ + S2 this problem pops up. This is unacceptable. Leica must fix it!

Well, astrophysics, anyway What Jaap means is that hot pixels are going to show up over time due to cosmic radiation, no matter what Leica does. Short of encasing the sensor in lead - and lead shutter blades would make for a very slow top shutter speed! . http://www.harvestimaging.com/pubdocs/130_2009_IISW_cosmicrays.pdf

BerndReini Posted December 6, 2011 Share #20 Posted December 6, 2011 Hate to say it, but I went shooting yesterday, and when I downloaded the photos, there it was: red line at ISO 640 and at ISO 160 when pushed in post. Off to New Jersey it goes. I'm hoping to get it back before Christmas.
