satya Posted September 13, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 13, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am loving my M8. The thumbs up is great with the 90mm Summicron and am getting better at using the long lens. (My 40 mm Summicron hopefully comes on Monday! ) So several times the camera almost slipped from my hand. I hate the M8 covering. After reading I decided on the Aki-Asahi leather skins. I used to make model kits and things- so covering the M would be fun. I know camera leather has great stuff - but for us in europe, it takes ages and duty etc. also it's more costly. maybe they will be for my future M9 or MM. Hmm or I could ship it to my sister in the US.. Not many photos on Asahi's site of the different kinds of leather. I was thinking of black lizard or one of the other ones. But not sure what the others look like. Anything like the vulcanite? Anyone use one of his skins and could show me a pic or two?

satya Posted September 13, 2013 Author Share #2 Posted September 13, 2013 Efix has a 2012 post on one of the skins 4034 that is supposed to be like the Leica vulcanite- but that order number is no longer on the site. Guide with some pics at:- Re-skinning the Leica M8 There is a skin called 4040 (Leica) and 4044. All the skins are embossed. Any info on those would be appreciated. Don't want that smooth 70s SLR type grain. If I got a silver M8 could have got a nice camel or brown cover.
lct Posted September 13, 2013 Share #3 Posted September 13, 2013 If you're after a better grip, the faux vulcanite of the M8.2 is the best i've used so far. It's just made of plastic though. See faux (left) and real (right) vulcanite below. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! rickp13 Posted September 13, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 13, 2013 hello satya you might want to take another look at cameraleather and search for ''griptac'' in black or grey. i installed this covering on an m2 and was very pleased with the look and the grip. i had no issues with customs, postage etc, because the griptac kit is quite reasonably priced and comes to you in a normal letter envelope. good luck with your m8 rick Welcome, dear visitor! satya Posted September 13, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted September 13, 2013 Actually after reading site again- the normal options are not leather- it's leatherette? And the second option is leather. So then easier choice as there is only one black. Will see if I can find more info on the leatherette if all the first options are not leather. I am also enjoying the Digilux2 . Grip tac seems to be very hardy. Was looking for the more classic look as well. (sorry I was typing on ipad while some of you posted- so I think my questions have been answered.) Now more choices-
