I'm using the software with the Epson 4900 for quite some time now and very happy with the results.

I used mainly Epson paper 240 and 260g

 

Recently. I moved to Leica Monochrom with really fine results nice details.

 

I used Ilford Gold Mono and good as well

 

I now like to use Harman and Hahnemuehle Baryta with 320 or 310 g paper

the prints are fine with the profile, but the fine details are a bit different,

so I’m wondering about the media type setting and what the optimum would be

The Media Type setting (Advanced->PrintSetup->Option section in the

Dashboard) is usually set automatically as soon as our printer/paper

profiles was applied via the printer Profile section in the Dashboard window

in ImagePrint. The printer accepts this parameter if you pick one of the

Epson's paper on the printer's front panel when loading the paper in the

printer (in this case Media Type set via Image Print is used behind the

scene).

"Media Type" parameter tells the printer how thick the paper is for a

printer to feed paper with proper speed and suction. If this parameter does

not match the loaded paper you might see a horizontal banding on a print

(this parameter does not cause a color shift). Media Type list contains only

Epson papers since Epson created and coded this parameter into each printer.

When printing on third party paper choose Epson paper that is similar by

thickness (if the value which was set automatically does not help to avoid

horizontal banding). List of all Epson papers with weight information

included can be located at Epson - Exceed Your Vision.

Harman by Hahnemuhle Gloss Baryta 320gsm is 12.6mil (as per info on the

Hahnemuhle web-site). Epson Water Color Radiant White (11mil paper) can be

used as Media Type in Image Print - it is close to the Harman by Hahnemuhle

Gloss Baryta by thickness. If you notice any horizontal banding try to fine

tune the media type by the Media Feed Adjustment slider located in

Advanced->PrintSetup->Option section in the Dashboard of Image Print -

choose a lower value if you see white lines on your prints, or a higher

value if you see dark lines.

If you print the same image at the same size on a different paper and see

some noise being introduced, make sure you are not using "Photo HS" speed

mode (see Advanced->PrintSetup section in the Dashboard) - the HS mode is

faster than the regular mode and the paper may not be able to absorb ink

droplets fast enough. If paper cannot absorb ink droplets properly, due to a

faster print mode, the droplets of ink tend to pool together producing more

noticeable ink droplet pattern.

 

If none of these suggestions apply please let me know if you print using

color or gray printer/paper profile in Image Print and if possible email the

photo of the print that illustrates the problem.
