rsh Posted April 18, 2010 Share #1 Posted April 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have used the DMR for 3 years now and it took me this long to think about winding the camera manually when there is a need to conserve battery power. roguewave Posted April 18, 2010 Share #2 Posted April 18, 2010 Richard, I have been there. Unfortunately, I haven't found it very effective.
topoxforddoc Posted April 18, 2010 Share #3 Posted April 18, 2010 I think both R and M users would like to wind manually - sadly no joy for either party!
rsh Posted April 19, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted April 19, 2010 Actually, it works great. Just open up the wind lever take your photo and wind on.
wildlightphoto Posted April 19, 2010 Share #5 Posted April 19, 2010 Actually, it works great. Just open up the wind lever take your photo and wind on. I found this quite effective with some birds that were very sensitive to the sound of the motor.
troyfreund Posted April 19, 2010 Share #6 Posted April 19, 2010 Yep, I use the wind-on lever when ever I'm concerned about noise--I really appreciate being able to do that! T
Jamie Roberts Posted April 28, 2010 Share #7 Posted April 28, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yep, me too: the manual wind is a great noise buffer. The new discreet mode on the digital ms is very nice and very similar as well.
Julian H Posted April 28, 2010 Share #8 Posted April 28, 2010 I always wind on my R8/DMR manually. It just feels right to me. Strange but true....
Jeff S Posted April 28, 2010 Share #9 Posted April 28, 2010 The new discreet mode on the digital ms is very nice and very similar as well. ...until one releases the shutter, that is. I've been disappointed in this feature, and am probably in the minority wishing that the digital Ms had a manual advance akin to the film Ms. I just hate that motor whirring noise. Sorry for the digression. My pet peeve. Jeff
