All,
Like many around here, I am both tired of, and saddened by, the arguments that seem to accompany any significant announcement or product launch by Leica. Instead of flying apart, I would like to suggest that we actually pull together to a common aim. I don’t care whether you are a hardened pro or a gentleman amateur, using an M8 or a Model I. We all have one thing in common, and that is our ability to press a shutter release. I therefore propose that we put our pixels and our emulsion where our mouths are. On one day – I propose the 29th of this month – we all take one photo of where we are, what we are doing, what we are witnessing, what we are experiencing and post that one photo on the Photo Forum, in a location set up for the purpose. The overall result – “One Leica Day” will be a reflection of the world as seen by Forum members during that day. Our geographical spread alone should ensure interesting results; the vision and talent of you, the Forum members will guarantee something memorable. There is no qualification required other than your ability to press the shutter release once during that 24-hour period, and share the result with the world. There is no competition, no judges, no prize, just the knowledge that you have taken part in something special. This is not an original idea – credit goes to Ann Barton who suggested something essentially similar at the turn of the year – but I think it is a good way for all of us to demonstrate that we know how to do something other than take pot-shots at each other across the internet. Finally, I would like to make the following personal commitment. I will give £1 for each image posted, up to a maximum of £50, to the Disabled Photographer’s Society (Welcome to the Disabled Photographers society). If anyone would like to match me, to help those less fortunate than ourselves, you would be welcome to do so. Regards, Bill

Count me in!
Is there anyway we could use Google Earth to provide us with a map of where everyone took their photograph/lives, or is that something that Google either don't do or charge for?

I'm sure we could do something with Google, whether photos embedded in Google Earth or just our photos embedded in a Google Map which in turn could be pasted into a thread or I don't mind hosting it on one of my sites. I'll have a think about it. |

Thank you all, for your prompt responses. I really like the Google Earth idea - I can't get into it to look at the moment - I am at home on a VPN and it won't let me authenticate my session!
Mario, I don't want to fix a time - I did think about that - I just want it to be the day - a special day in the first place, that only comes around every four years. People can shoot when they want, within that 24 hour period - I think that will give us more variety in the results. Regards, Bill

Hey, this sounds like fun!
Let's not specify a time though. I will be hunkered down in a heavy interview/meeting that day and will have to grab the shot whenever I can. I assume others will be in similar positions. But if anytime during that day is OK, I'm in! Of course on a world-wide scale that day will actually spread out over a couple of days (time differences, eh?).
