bscott Posted June 18, 2007 Share #1 Posted June 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) What is the consensus on the Leica 28-35-50 m lens as to the image quality compared to primes of the same focal length?
Advertisement Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Hi bscott, Take a look here 28-35-50 M lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
topoxforddoc Posted June 18, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 18, 2007 Not bad at all. I bought one of the 2nd version E49 lenses; both versions are identical optically. The 28 setting has a bit of barrel distortion, but is otherwise fine. The 35 and 50 settings are pretty much the same as the pre-asph 35 cron and current 50 cron in image quality albeit only at max f4. Has a bit of a problem with flare in some hands, although I've not had major issues with this on mine. Charlie
rsh Posted June 18, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 18, 2007 I really like the lens. You will have to scour for one as they have been discontinued.
pascal_meheut Posted June 19, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 19, 2007 I agree with topoxforddoc. At 28mm, the Summicron ASPH is better on the edges, even at f/8. Besides that, it plays in the same league in the center and is as good as the 50mm/2. Biggest problem is the F/4 max aperture.
jaapv Posted June 19, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 19, 2007 I find it a very good lens especially on the M8, as the center is as good or maybe better as any pre-asph equivalent lens. I find the flare mentioned in some reports not worse than other lenses. The aperture of 4.0 is adequate for the intended use of travel photography. The main problem I have with it is the bulk.
