adli Posted August 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 28, 2010 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I have a E39 black Leica lens cap with black velvet on the inside (not only on the inside rim, but the whole inside). The cap is made out of black painted metal, see attached picture. Does anybody have the part number for this lens cap? Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted August 28, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 28, 2010 (edited) The one you are showing has a ribbed inside and is the lenscap for the Elmar-M 50/2.8. I think later Elmars have a cap with the ribbed edge, but without the full velvet. The older ones have a purple velvet retaining strip and are easily found on e-bay. There are also a number of copies around, which are quite good. All those caps are interchangable Edited August 28, 2010 by jaapv
adli Posted August 28, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted August 28, 2010 That's strange, because the only Elmar 50/2.8 I have is the collapsible one, which came with the silver lens cap in the attached picture. As far as I remember, the black metal cap came with the Elmarit-M 28/2.8. However, in the manual, it says that the Elmarit-M 28/2.8 lens should come with the clip-on lens cap 14038 Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted August 28, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 28, 2010 That is certainly strange, as mine from 2007 came with a black ribbed internal ring. It might be that Leica switches types.

Yes because you have the silver lens. But the latest black Elmar has a black metal cap as well. I can't seem to recall the color of the velvet though. lct Posted August 29, 2010 Share #7 Posted August 29, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) But I don't have the black Elmar, but I have a black metal cap that fits my Elmarit-M 28/2.8 This cap will fit on all 39mm lenses like the Elmarit-M 28/2.8 asph normally but i don't remember if it is sold with the lens. I'm travelling now but i'll check in the box when i'm back home. I would be surprised if it is black paint though. According to my dealer's tariff (page 6 & 7) the product numbers of those caps are: - 14321 (silver) - 14285 (black anodized) - 14003 (black paint)

However, if I search for this part number on Leica dealers online, they sell plastic lens caps with that number, and not a black anodized metal cap. I also found an other thread where the same issue is discussed. According to this thread, it seem as I have to go directly to Leica to get it http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/24412-looking-lens-cap-14285-a.html
lct Posted August 29, 2010 Share #9 Posted August 29, 2010 The 14285 is listed as "plastic, black" at B&H and Adorama. Never seen plastic caps like that AFAIC.
