Looking for a Lens Cap (14285)

Steve, I have gone to the round, metal, screw-in hoods available on eBay, and dispensed with the cap. The IR-cut filter is protecting the kilobuck lens, and the metal hood is v-e-r-y sturdy.

The hoods are cheap enuf that you could try this solution while you're waiting to turn up a cap. Or, you could look for a round, plastic cap to fit the round metal hood.

I also have round metal hoods on all lenses that will take them. lens caps get lost and the metal hoods protect the lens pretty well. i just put my IR filter on and screw in the hoods

I agree, there would be an argument for rectangular hoods if they matched the crop factor, but they don't.

Looking at the variety of hood designs and fastenings (WATE, 21/24, 28, 35/1.4, 35/2.8 etc etc) you do wonder whether dreaming up a new hood design is something they do when they're bored. And don't get me started on the cost of a replacement WATE hood. Something like £106, $180 + tax.

Found a used one at DAG for $15, and decided to order a couple from SKGrimes once I get my hands on a micrometer. The lens OD appears to be 42mm, but I want to check with something other than a ruler if I'm getting a custom made part.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm looking for a lens cap for a new version 28mm Elmarit lens. The part number is 14285; it's a metal push on cap that also fits the Elmarit 50. I've tried the usual places.

Any ideas?

Steve

If it's the black metal style cap with Leica, in the Leica script, lettering this something NEW. I have a new 35/2 Cron and the new 28/2.8 Elmarit and bot use the same hood but I only got the black metal cap with the 28/2.8. The 35 Cron came with the plastic pinch on/off type cap.

About the only place to get them is directly from Leica.

Agreed - the hoods and caps are ludicrously priced. I had to buy a spare 35/F2 ASPH hood recently to replace the circular vented thing my 35/F2 came with. It was an eye watering £76 and I felt pretty embarrassed forking out for it (it was like I had "mug" written right across my forehead).
