Given the move into live view & adding close focus to new lens issues, you'd think a new multi-focal or zoom would be in the cards? The OG WATE 28/35/50 always made more sense to me in full frame, despite the tradeoffs of size/weight, aperture and min focus. I suppose Leica would rather sell you 2-3 lenses but would be nice to have a more modern option here. Especially with more modern high ISO options, f4 isn't so limiting.

Really the only thing I ask, and apparently this is a big ask of Leica... Absolutely, no-questions-asked, rock solid v1 firmware. I do not want to be left on the sidelines for months to years wondering if it safe to buy yet. That's it. Everything else is negotiable and a trade off. I've waited so long on the M11 that there's no way I'm buying it. Given historical release cadence, they could ship an M12 in the next 12 months.

Leica SL3-S: ‘More light’ – The Unbearable Lightness of Being
steveBK replied to MediaFotografie's topic in Leica SL System
The usual suspects will report that it's "nearly as good as Sony/Nikon now" and once in the hand of broad reviewer base and objective purchasers will be walked back to "well its better.. I mean pretty good.. definitely good for Leica... hey I wouldn't shoot sports or BIF, but that's not what Leicas for anyway so.."- 316 replies

Missing images after first shoot with SL3
steveBK replied to PeterBoyadjian's topic in Leica SL System
Wasn't upgrading my M10R to M11 because of the firmware/hardware/who knows debacle. Was curious of SL3 shared enough tech to have similar.. I think I'll take my mirrorless dollars elsewhere now. -
How would you compare SL3 vs X2D for high resolution mirrorless landscape/portrait and a bit of street/travel kit? (ie - no birding/sports)
-
I'm similar. M primary + EVF system of some sort, especially landscapes. Would you replace the GFX with the SL3? Why did you go GFX over Hassy X2D given the design philosophy of Hassy being more Leica-esque? I've had the SL, SL2, X1D all previously plus various Sony/Nikon mirrorless. Purely on specs, the GFX makes more sense especially if you consider cost. I couldn't get my head around trying GFX after seeing the body/lens size & more-is-more controls design ala Sony.

It's crazy that even the "post if you have a trouble free M11" post has about 1/3 of the "my camera is trouble free" posters caveating it with problems they did have prior to/after certain firmware versions.. or that they have 2 cameras where 1 is great, 1 is buggy or defective.

Sure, had an S1r when it was first out. But then not sure why I would shoot Panasonic body & Sigma lens over a Sony body & Sigma lens? Sony gives wider selection and better performance bodies. Panasonic UI is more akin to Sony complexity and not the simplicity of a Leica/Hasselblad design.
-
Yes this is what I am getting at! The SL2 actually balances weight/aesthetically/ergonomically very well with the Sigma I-Contemporary lines. You get mechanical aperture controls on lens & good weight/size. But then I ask myself which I get an SL2 to shoot Sigma glass instead of a Sony something. Seems like paying a premium on the wrong part (body vs lens). Sometimes it feels like the SL line is stuck in a weird limbo of Leica not wanting to cannibalize their other product lines (M, Q) and so they leave otherwise obvious product gaps.
-
I think I handled that in the preceding line - “I'd have liked to see Leica pursue smaller/slower line of L mount primes rather than rebranding Sigma/Panasonic as they have decided to do.” Im sure something between 400-500g at a slower speed is achievable with good results for Leica, at a $3k price point maybe Rather that than buy a Leica body and put Sigma lenses on it
-
SL3 at $8k does seem a bit much in light of similar/more lustworthy X2D being the same price. With the X2D I get more resolution, bigger sensor, and with most of the primes a smaller/lighter/cheaper body+lens package. I'd have liked to see Leica pursue smaller/slower line of L mount primes rather than rebranding Sigma/Panasonic as they have decided to do. The APO lenses are technical marvels, but they should be for $5k and 700g for F2.0 speed.

many such cases ...

I've become something of a one lens/one camera guy myself on travel I also like the idea of tri-elmar/dual hexanon for travel when you really feel you need more than 1 focal length ..

Are the unreadable DNGs happening exclusively on SD card or on internal memory too?
